Delawang,

How long ago did you build your house? My wife said 640,000 baht is not what it used to be. She cited the price of cement as one thing that has increased considerable over the past few years. Also, did you sink your own well? Do you have an electric pump...cistern? What is the cause of the after 7:00 phenomenon?

I am hoping to be in the area in December. Perhaps we could drop by for a look???

Yes very much so.

The down side of this social arrangement is that individuals have more responsibility and less freedom.
Now is this really a bad thing? I mean do unto others seems to be the single most prevelant way of thinking among the Thai. Sure you can not shut your doors for two weeks and just recluse with your wife to the bedroom, but I certainly have a much happier marriage with the CONSTANT socialization.

Also, rural Thai society does not seem to encourage or reward high achievement the way western societies do. In Thailand, took yang sabai sabai (everything’s laid back and mellow).
I did notice you singled out rural Thai, I agree for the most part, but I would edit in a minor change. If a son comes from the rice field and upon finishing school he joins the military and becomes a loan officer at a bank the family is extremely proud and hold it in high regard. I think it is more the 'local opinion' that does not hold him in a special high place. Example....

I know a guy who just bought a large nice $290,000 house 7 bedroom 4 bathroom, very nice. He loves his house, and his American co-workers love his house, but you know what the Thai opinion is? They all say so what! No big deal, yes it is bigger but you need to work 3 jobs to pay for it.

Now I know my wife would love to own that house, but she will not ever say it. Similar to the story Vision started the topic with I think.

Hi visionchaser45 ,Stacker, Makiy0
and paul_au ,
It is so nice to hear a topic like this one; it is such a treat to my mind. If you guys would not mine, I’ll print it out and frame it. I’ll hang it on the wall so my kids can read it everyday.
