Thanks D80 for sharing so many interesting superstition with us...
Quote[/b] ]Like the belief that you should not sweep the floor of your house at night or you will lose your wealth Quote[/b] ]Somehow, the maximumu amount of time I ever heard them is 8 calls in one go!!! Very frustrating! Quote[/b] ]Some won't even cut their nails. The reason being the word 'cut' is unlucky... like cutting your family ties, cutting your luck etc etc. |

Here are some more that I read from various sources:
>Don't sing while cooking (because you will have a very old spouse). >Don't look in the mirror in the evening >Do not sew clothes when you are wearing them. >if Thai men wearing amulets are under female undergarment, it will neutralize the effect of the amulet -or even bring bad luck (hold back your dirty fantansies, they just refer to passing under clotheslines! ) > #6 brings reverse results (ie. changing good luck into bad luck) >If you dream of a snake holding you tightly, you will meet your soulmate soon. >Never possess anything that belonged to a deceased person (becasue his/her spirit might still reside in it) >If a spider beats his chest while you are around, it means bad luck. (umm, I am not sure how this would look like) And then there are all the ghosts, spirits, along with the tattoos and amulets, spirit houses, and shrines too numerous to count. Not to mention the fortune-tellers, mediums and psychics... How about the sleeping directions? I heard that sleeping facing westward is a big no-no in Thailand, while east being the most favorable.... go figure. Well, at least that makes interior desgin easy! But at the end, the most extensive source of Thai superstitions is still Nattawud's writing. There are dozens featured both in the Gorsworld column (most recent being the one about walking under the elephant) as well as on Thailandlife.com, most recently this article about superstitions in connection to plants. Very interesting. |

Yeah Adrian, it is quite true. But I don't know what can clash with what since I don't really know much details about amulets. I think there are quite a few books and magazines about that in Thailand.
When you wear amulets, you should also wear odd numbers at a time since even numbers (like 2,4,6 amulets and so on) are the number of buddhist monks used in funeral! So it's not considered to be good for your luck to wear even number amulets. |
