Default Thailand laws
OK yesterday in one of my classes we were discussing about citizenship. Of course me being borned in the U.S. makes me a U.S. citizen. My teacher said that if one of our parents were a citizen in the U.S. when we moved to the U.S. then that makes us a citizen in the U.S. I'm not quite sure about the Thailand laws, but can someone tell me about the citizenship in Thailand? I visit Thailand a lot, but not quite sure if I'm a citizen over there or not. Also, if someone was born in Thailand and has earned their citizenship in U.S.A. by naturalization does that make them loose their citizenship in Thailand?

Anna, if one of your parents is a Thai citizen, they can apply for you a Thai birth certificate. So, you will have both a Thai and USA birth certificate.

Then, you can apply for a Thai passport. The folowing is what you need:

NEW PASSPORT FOR THAI CHILDREN BORN IN THE UNITED STATES

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS :

Children who may apply for a Thai passport must be those whose either or both of their parents is/are a Thai citizen.

Thai Birth Certificate
Parent’s valid passports together with two copies of pages 1-5 of passports
Two Passport Application forms (please fill out both front and back of the form) Signatures of both father and mother are required in the back of the form
Two Legalization forms and Investigation forms filled out by father or mother who is a Thai national. (If both parents are Thai, the forms are required to be completed by the father.)
Two copy of marriage certificate of their parents
Four recent passport-sized photographs (2"x2"). (Photographs must have a light-plain background with a full-face view of the child without wearing a hat or dark glasses. Proper attire is required. Tank top is not acceptable.)
$53.00 fee. (for the processing fee of $50 and the picture zooming fee of $3.00) Please pay in money order or cashier's check made payable to the Royal Thai Embassy only. (In case where the applicant requests the mailing of application form to him/her at the embassy's expense, please sent the Embassy postage stamp(s) of equivalent value in compensation.)
