For the first time, all arts and science universities and colleges in TN will have a common curriculum to facilitate students’ migration between universities and study standardised curriculum.
This initiative will benefit several lakhs of students. Higher education minister P. Palaniappan held a meeting with vice-chancellors of all state universities on Tuesday to discuss various issues. One of the vice-chancellors, on condition of anonymity, said as the curriculum in higher education institutions differ, students had a tough time migrating from a university to another. “At present, students have to get equivalence certificate from the university they aspire to join as authorities will check whether curriculum in both universities are same or else the student should take up an examination on a particular subject,” he said. Seventy per cent of the syllabuses — devised by Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education — will be the same for all colleges. Higher education secretary T.S. Sridhar said the government would allocate separate funds for innovation and research. Source: Deccan Chronicle |
