Default More family names available for thai people
More family names available

The Nation, Published on Mar 26, 2003

Another batch of 3,000 family names created by the Supreme Patriarch will be available for reservation from tomorrow, the Local Administration Department (LAD) announced yesterday.

Those wishing to change their family names can obtain "queue cards" from 8.30am at the department's booth at the Red Cross Fair in the Amporn Garden, the agency said.

Applicants are required to produce ID cards or any other government-issued cards that contain their 13-digit identification numbers.

Those who manage to get one of the 3,000 queue cards can register new family names from Friday through April 5 at the LAD's booth free of charge.

They can also log on to the department's website (www.khonthai.com) to find more about reserving a name as well as the 3,000 surnames available.

Married women are not allowed to reserve new family names for themselves. To make reservations for their husbands, they have to submit written consent from their spouse.

Underage people are barred from making such reservations.
