About 40 passengers have been injured after a bus, number 17M (Broadway to Vadapalani), fell off the Gemini flyover in the heart of Chennai. Early reports say the driver lost control of the bus as he negotiated a bend on the flyover.

There were about 60 passengers in the bus. No casualty has been reported so far and the police say they hope there will be none. The injured have been taken to the nearest hospitals.

Traffic around the flyover has come to a halt and there are reports of jams and chaos. There are hundreds of vehicles stranded on either side. Police are trying to remove the bus and also divert traffic.

Passengers say the driver was over-speeding, but the police are yet to confirm that.
