Tamil Nadu MLAs will soon be able to better connect with the people as the state government has sanctioned purchase of a laptop or a personal computer with internet connection for each of them from the constituency development fund of Rs.2 crore for 2011-12.
Apart from a laptop/personal computer, the MLAs can purchase a printer. The project cost should not exceed Rs.87.50 lakh, an official release said. Internet will enable the members to better prepare for debates, the release said. CM Jayalalithaa had made an announcement to the effect in the budget session of the Assembly in August last year. The government also hiked the constituency development fund from Rs.1.75 crore to Rs.2 crore per constituency. AIADMK T. Nagar MLA V.P. Kalairajan said the laptops would be of great help in day-to-day work. “We used to refer to policy notes to learn about various schemes. Now, we can save a lot of time by looking it up on the internet,” he said, adding that it would be easier to keep in touch with voters through emails. -dc chn |
