I think all of that depends on the circumstances of the family. How much money they have etc.
If you haven't seen Nattawud's column in the Bangkok Post called Gor's World I would suggest you should take a look now and over the coming months. He is going through this process himself. In the last column, he was talking about the dowry his girlfriend's parents were asking for. http://www.gorsworld.com |

I have a few questions about Thai traditions involving life after marriage. For instance, do Thai couples go to a honeymoon?
More importantly, is the just-married couple expected to live separately from the relatives or are they expected to stay with the parents? If so, at whose parents? The wife's or the husband's? Furthermore, at what level is the couple expected to participate in the life of the larger family? This question might be not clear, so let me explain a little bit: in many cultures the two families that come together by the wedding are sort of "merged", maintaining a close relationship. This is especially true for people in Italy and Ireland. In other cultures however, the families of the couples remain quite distant. How does it go in Thailand? Side note: I realize that not every Thai marriage is done the same stereotypical way; what I'd like to know are some general trends that stem from the traditional Thai way. Thank you. ![]() |

Thank you.
I've been following Nattawud's story closely for quite some time now. I hope everything will turn out the best for him and his new family... but that topic is for another board. ![]() Quote[/b] ]I think all of that depends on the circumstances of the family. How much money they have etc. ![]() |
