Default Seal on T Nagar shops to stay
The Madras High Court declined to remove the lock and seal on the unauthorised shops in T Nagar area, on Wednesday.

When the matter came up before the first bench comprising Chief Justice M Y Eqbal and Justice T S Sivagnanam, counsel for Ranganathan Street Merchants’ Association submitted that the State government was yet to declare its policy with regard to the commercial complexes at T Nagar in the wake of the Justice Mohan committee report.
It was imperative for the government to make its stand clear since there was a proposal to pass a legislation on the issue, he said, and added that in the meantime, the lock and seals might be removed.

Counsel for one of the original petitioners — Citizens’ Consumer and Civic Action Group — said the complexes that were sealed ought to be demolished. The bench posted the matter for hearing on December 20.
