I think theres minor differences. Its smaller, holds more music, longer battery life. Comes in 4 different colours and just looks a tad different. they also do not have the headphone jack problem i posted earlier. minis have a metal outter casing. the displays are not quite as elaborate. minis come with a belt clip i think that sums it up for now... |

I was hyped when the Ipod Mini was announced - placed a preorder and got it straight from the factory like 3 days before retail release.
After about 2 months I began having serious battery issues and cases where the ipod would not shut off leading to overheating. I had to send it back to apple after 3 months of use(I dished out 40(US) for shipping) and they sent me a refurbished mini, which worked well enough for the remaining months that it saw use. The good thing is they tend to keep their value; I sold my refurbed mini for about 20(US) under retail. What I find particularly annoying is that just about everyone suggests that you purchase the 3 year warranty on these things. It seems that every apple user knows they're going to have problems with these "user-friendly" devices. While anecdotal,I wouldn't ever buy an apple product again due to the horrid customer service I received. People have suggested looking into iriver's and I'd suggest taking a look at the new Sony MP3 line as well. They have a 20gig about the same size as the mini and I just convinced my brit friend to get one and he loves the hardware but notes the software leaves a bit to be desired. Currently, I just use my psp for my mp3 use. Its a bit on the big side but its great to have during a long wait for movies/games. ^^ |

Don't get me wrong, even though I hate Macs. I do have to use them sometimes. To me it's very clumsy and so are most of their products especially the damn one button mouse that you have to hold the control key to left click. I felt kind of offended when you told us to grow up. I also used Linux for a little while. Not to mention the worst part of a mac, they're quite expensive comparing to a PC. When you close an application, it's not really closed. You have QUIT it. I guess you can argue it'll load faster, but I find that pretty darn annoying. Too bad I can't find that video that guy talks about all the bad things about macs and he swing it around 360 degree and away. He does a better explanation than me... Jakob |

ok i've had alot of experience with the ipods and i have this to say,
you have to send them back to apple to replace the batteries and because thier nikad (or however its spelled) they deteriorate quickly. about a year. also, they have a heat sensitive touch pad which becomes really annoying on a hot day. and finally, if you do get one, invest in a weapon as well because they're high targets for theft |
