yes safe from all but the raging liberals Come on down south and we'll show you the southern hospitality the north hasnt wuite caught onto yet. I dont know were you get the north(with such wonders as NY and chicago) are any safer than the south. Generaly avoid large towns, and youll be good I never actually said the north was safer than the south. However, as far as the south goes, I have one hyphenated word to descibe it: gun-toting. And one non-hyphenated one: humid. Ooo, and another: flat. Wait, two more: pickup truck. *kidding* Hank. |

New England is very nice - and safe, too. No hurricanes to speak of, no earthquakes, tornados, volcanos, grizzlies, mountain lions, poisonous lizards or snakes, etc. You get warm summers and cold winters - you can be at the beach in June and on the slopes in December. Lots of forested land and some sizable peaks for climbing. And Boston is nice. I have one hyphenated word to descibe it: gun-toting. And one non-hyphenated one: humid. Ooo, and another: flat. From up here, I've always seen Minnesota as being the most Canadian state.
![]() If I were to choose to go a state, it would be Minnesota. Second choice is Washington. But I'm in the automotive industry, so if I went to the US, I'd probably end up in Michigan. |

The Southwest is also pretty neat - I've been impressed by Albuquerque and Tuscon. And California is the default "nice state". As far as SC is concerned, well, I thought it was pretty boring when I drove through it (once). But that was just a drive through, eh? Maybe I'm wrong. Hank. |

Well, it just hit me as another way of interpretting this question. Do you mean safe living in general or safe living from terrorists? I know lots of people here who were thinking of visiting the US and then decided to go to Australia after 9/11.
So if you are looking for somewhere safe in terms of that, live in the middle of the country. Farmland doens't make a very interesting target. Although people who live in places like Wisconsin and such tell me that all there is to do is sit in the middle of corn fields and drink and go on LONG bike rides over lots of flat land. |

Ha, I grew up target shooting with rifles, handguns and shotguns, as did a lot of people I know who've lived up here their whole lives. I've never hunted (never had to). I'll never carry a handgun, but only because I really think it's a chickensh*t thing to do. So, no, I don't have a big problem with guns, I'm just not feverent about it like so many others (NRA) are. In fact, I've been hankering for some skeet lately (the autumn air does that to me). And, in actuality, the only issues I have with the south (which is the southeastern US for those who don't know) are that it's humid for over half the year, and you can't ski anywhere the other half. |

Northern states (with a few exceptions) usually tend to be a bit quieter (except for cities like Detriot....AVOID AT ALL COSTS!). I live in michigan, and the worst thats ever happend up here would be a police chase several months ago. The weather sucks up here, tho'. One day, it'll be 80+ degrees farienheit, and then the next day it'll be snowing (no joke).
