hmm...well...why not start testing on people and start shooting up prisioners convicted with violent crimes with nitiric oxide?

Seriously, though, I'd like to see the notes the researchers took. Kinda wonder if there were any other variables than what was mentioned in the report.

Other than that...well, I don't think thats the ONLY reason people act violent. This would kind of relate to a nature vs. nurture discussion, assuming that a nitric oxide deficency is something that is possible hereditary. Though, then again, I suppose someone could go off on a rant against the articale about how the way we're raised has more of an effect on us than any chemical imbalance we could possibly have, or about how we shouldn't be comparing ourselves to mice, etc.

It's somewhat flies in the face of the concept of 'freewill.' Do we truely have freewill if things like chemical deficencies, drug addiction, mental illness and such can alter our behavior?
If the machinery's truly broken, willpower may not be enough to make it go the way you want it to.

I found this interesting little article about lack of Nitric-Oxide in the brain and behavior:

Your thoughts?

We'd like to think we're "superior" to "mere animals." But most of us are still under the whims of our animalistic nature, such as the drive to reproduce. Almost all people (even in the "most civilized" countries like the US) try to rationalize this drive with thoughts like: "I want my surname to live on." "I want a little version of me." "My parents want grandchildren." and so on. Not only do I find the "need" to produce children animalistic, but selfish as well.
More importantly, the same chemicals drive the neurons in our brains and the killer rapist mice.

Now I know why I didn't major in behavioral science. The creepy factor is a little high here....

why, oh why are we humans always compared to these little creatures when we are so magnificent and highly intellectual? seriously though. i know that most of our DNA structure is quite indentical to it and maybe some of the organs too, but we're still more superior to them. aren't we?
