I'm not sure, I missed the last rurouni kenshin episode...
I'd say get a gun.
I didn't however.

It is very vital that Beginner starts training Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu as soon as possible. All you need is a bokuto and a backyard to practice. Why not invite your friends over for some real duels?

Recommended material: Book of five rings, Hagakure, The Last Samurai, Highlander. Don't be fooled by quackery like the Karate Kid movies however!

f you have reached an appropriat e level (this should take two or three weeks training tops) you can buy a real sword (we call this a SHINKEN) on eBay, the best ones are priced around 50$ and have a dragon's head at the end of the tsuka (handle). Have your friends buy them too for more intense practice.

Like if a guy wanted to learn how to use a sword to kill people in the fastest way possible when it is already out, not interested in any codes of honour.

What i mean is an atmosphere more like a boxing gym than a karate club, where you just learn and practice and nothing else.
If you want to kill people as fast as you can, get a black market gun.
With a sword? Learn one of the kenjutsu styles. Oh, when you say "the fastest way possible" do you mean like...speed? Speed is something that comes naturally as you practice. Speed in a fight isn't something you want to rely on. Without proper technique, arm speed alone won't be enough to kill someone with a sword. Leg speed will help you evade/move in, but if your somehow cut off from that speed, your screwed (ex. take a hit in the legs, fighting in an confined area, etc). Reaction speed..same thing. Rely on it too much, and you'll be screwed when if fails you. Anyway, no matter how fast you are, you can't fight a gun with a sword (in most situations, anyway).

As to what is the most effective sword fighting art...it all depends on the user. Even the best weapons are worthless in the hands of someone who isn't strong enough to use them. The worst weapons in the world can become deadly killing tools if used by someone with skill.

The über-technique:

1. Draw sword.
2. Throw sword on ground.
3. Draw uzi.
4. Kill people.
5. Repeat 1-4 until all people in the vincinity is dead.
6. End.

The quickest way to kill someone with a sword (effectively)? Well...the first step i guess would be take a few classes in anatomy. Learn the location of vitals and blood vessles, etc. After that, try finding someplace that teaches kenjutsu.
Note-if your looking for ways to kill people, try learning to use something else besides a sword. You get arrested for carrying a sword around in public. I doubt you'll be carrying a sword with you if you do get into a fight with someone outside a dojo.

So codes of honour slow you down? Are they particularly heavy? Perhaps they have a high drag co-efficient. Interesting question you've thrown up.

I'd say the place you would like, find this guy you are talking about, is in prison. Seriously.

And if you're mixing with people who fight with knives you're probably not far from going there yourself one day. If you're lucky. To the morgue if you're not.

Well i went to karate once and i couldnt stand all the stuff about salutation and some guys are "higher" than others as in black belts and shit and i thought that it was a kind of ego trip, whereas in boxing you just train and spar and learn and no one gives a shit they just try to improve and become better boxers. So i was wondering if sword fighting places are like this.
If you think rank is there just to "show off" and "shit", then I'm not sure what kind of dojo you went to. In kendo, there is no way to visually see someone's rank outside of how well they perform. As to being able to find out how to kill some guy regardless of form and "honor" or such useless things, I think the best way to get better, as with anything, is with experience. So, good luck. Maybe you can buy the "Ultimate Ninja Weapon" because it has shuriken as tsuba and some other handy things that'll come in handy.

Aim for the head. It's as simple as that.

awesome find!
my dragging a bokken around-days are officiallly over!

seriously though, you say that your adversaries would be carrying a knife, wouldn't just carrying a sword be enough?
And does this friend of yoursactually intend to carry around a sword when he goes to work? I don't know if you noticed, but swords tend to be big...

Hold on to the round part, do not hold on to the sharp part as it will cause pain. Once you have fiugred this out, stick the pointy end into other people. DO NOT stick the pointy end into your self as this will cause injury and most likely make you say ow.

hey listen beginner, i'm just going to be as real as i can. you are NOT going to find any help on these forums. if you want to practice like boxers do, then find some mcdojo that will let you do that. the people on this forum have seen many of your like over the years and i've seen my fair share over the past couple months. i'm sorry to the other posters that are just being sarcastic and making fun of 'beginner' for blowing the party, but hasn't this thread exhausted its entertainment value already?

oh and btw beginner, no real dojo will exclude any of the so-called 'codes of honour' because that is how we practice. here's an idea: go research some more, because i think aquatic windu is a good style, or so i hear.

Is this the kind of class your looking for?
http://www.ebaumsworld.com/videos/kungfuteacher.html
good luck....i doubt you'll last more than 5 seconds
That looks more like muay thai than kung-fu or sword fighting.

As the troll, I mean beginner's question, there isn't an answer. Most every sword style has an effective means of dispatching an opponent quickly with a single blow. It all depends on how cooperative your opponent is.

Look, ill narrow it down. I just want to know how he can learn how to strike with the most power and efficiency with a sword. Like doing the most damage with one hit with the sword. Which teaches you this?

And i can't believe you said that places where they practice like boxers are McDojos:

Under that attitude, a karate club where they practice against air is fine but an MMA gym is a McDojo? Seriously.
As far as I know, the most powerful waza that is still taught today is the saba-zushi or maybe the battera. Hmm. You'll need a pretty big sword to pull of the katsudon though. They're all solid attacks that can bring down your opponent.
