I agree with Ahmed. You need to wash your gi as frequent as possible. My skin is sensitive with sweat, so I always wash my gi after practice. It will be advisable that you buy extra gi so that you are able to wear one when the other is still in the wash or in the midst of drying. Lastly, it is good to shower after practice so the sweat and bacteria doesn't stays in your skin.

I don't know about Kote that allow breathing. But Chiba Bogu has a version of theiir Kote which has micropunched palms which helps sweat evaporation. I guess that's the same thing.
Also Tozando has a some things which might help you such as: An "Under Men" which is sort of cap which heps absorb sweat. "Under Kote" sweat absorbent gloves, it says they are antibacterial. and some others (chin sweat absorbers, etc). One thing, just where is the rash? No need to buy kote if the rash is in your face after all. |

Fly korean. Your problem is that you only wash your keiko gi once every two weeks?!?!?!!? Thats kinda grimy. I wash mine 2 to 3 times a week. When you leave your gi for 2 weeks that sweat builds up with bacteria, which is what causes that smell. Tell you the truth, your gi probably started to get moldy from leaving it for so long withought cleaning, especially if you dont hang it up outside in the sun to dry. So Im going to give you a few suggestions.
1. Get a new Keiko gi, and to be safe, get one of those special ones for your situation. 2. Clean your gi 3 times a week at least. 3. You shouldnt have to quit kendo because of this. Im not an expert, but quitting kendo seems kind of harsh. Peace. |

found something else..
Use Chamois Cream. Almost unheard of in the United States, chamois cream is the savior of most European long distance cyclists. Several manufacturers make specific chamois cream products. If you read the ingredients they are a lot like A&D Ointment used to treat diaper rash. Since chamois cream is largely unavailable in the US, A&D Ointment makes a great alternative. Chamois cream is an anti-bacterial lubricant that reduces friction between your skin and the chamois pad of your shorts. It also helps inhibit the growth of bacteria and helps sooth a raw crotch. Put liberal amounts of Chamois cream on your crotch before you put your shorts on. If you put it on your shorts first, it will smear on your legs when you pull the shorts on. Chamois cream helps a great deal. Found this at a riding site..so i think you can put the cream in (ahem)other places than what they've listed |

Are your cloths cotton? Cotton does horrible, horrible things to your skin when it gets wet, or even damp. I know when i go camping/hiking i make sure i didn't pack any cotton cloths by mistake. Running around outdoors with damp cotton cloths is a guarenteed way to get chafed, irritated skin. That might be the source of the problem, actually....

Well as you can see from my other thread, that I have been having some sort of "rash" due to kendo. Otto-san thinks its friction rash, which I believe it is. I went my skin doctor , and I told him my problem. He said that due to your sensitive skin, when you sweat in your keikogi and hakama, the moisture has no where to go so it stays on your skin causing the rash. He said it might also be from bacteria and the odor that is coming from your keikogi. And lastly he said I should quit kendo, if you dont want the rash to get worse :\ . Immediately I told him about some of the special keikogis and bogu's that specialize in these things. He said that it could be worth a try, but theres no garuntee at all since keikogi is always keikogi and bogu will always be bogu. |
