But, "Olympic" - I have to agree, it's not remotely about fitness. Neither are archery or marksmanship events (except biathlon) - but they all give the squattybodies something to aspire to.
Bet you a dollar you couldn't fire four arrows from my bow, your hands and arms would be shaking after the second and probably couldn't even draw the fourth time. Nothing personal, it is hard to do and take a great deal of strength.

In case you have missed it:

1. Sweden
2. Finland
3. Czech Republic
(4. Russia)

It was fun

Didn't watch it, but I am happy we won. People tend to get happier if Sweden wins something

Whoever made Finland's sticks looks to be out of a contract. Those things were breaking all over the place...great tournament though!

That's what you get for putting a bunch of old hard-hitting NHL types into a big-rink international game.
Thats what you get when you have Gretsky coach the team.

Longbow? Hell yes, that's hard but Olympic-style target archery with a recurve? It's not nearly as demanding (physically), the average draw weight is what, 50 lbs?. Granted, you do the whole 72-shot round and it takes a toll on your arms and shoulders, but it doesn't exactly take a prime physical specimen to be good at it.

Bet you didn't know you were talking to the Humboldt State University Intramural Archery Champion of 1984 and 1985 did you? Most people don't, I keep it quiet because I got tired of all the autograph signing...

I guess you learned while protecting the marijuanna fields.

Nah, 70lb compound (left handed). When I got it I could only shoot in groups of three because the fourth got pretty shaky. It took a while to get used to it, completely different set of muscles, like anything else.

I don't remember anything that happened between 1968 and 1972 and anything that happened wasn't my fault.
