I think that the Northern European Congregational Christians decided that everyone except themselves were heathens. That being the case they could not have their "Jesus" be semitic so they made him into a blue eyed blond haired guy. Thus in their missionary work they could convert the heathen but still look down on them.
I'll bet that a hundred years ago if you depicted the white rasta boy as Jesus the Calvinists would be marching in the streets.
