Default video is brutal..
with shiai coming up at w&m sometime soon, our dojo has been video taping the shiai keiko to help the ones attn the shiai in va.

so i had chance to review what i was doing, i'm not going, but they took my shiai keiko anyway.. god.. i'm god awful!

i slouch at neck.. my back isn't all that straight.. i jump up when i try to do cuts.. i look like a mess. i have so much to work on.

i concure.
watching yourself, even just in a mirror (but moreso on film) is horrid

its a good way to make yourself improve though. once you can see what you are doing badly, you can concentrate on doing it proper. and then film yourself again in a few months to see how you improve

I agree.
use it as a training tool, to see what is going right as well as what you are doing wrong.
have yourself filmed regularly and you will notice a big difference in your kendo in no time.
also, dont be so hard on yourself. you can only improve if you train hard.

I had a friend tape me at the LaCross taikai... and I agree. Though I hit several men, and a couple kote... after watching the tape I now know why I didn't score and points. Terrible follow through, zanshin was lacking... and many other areas to improve. (however, my friends and wife think I look awesome... they don't need to know!)

Video was the only way to analyze my own technique when throwing the discus and etc.

Don't see why it doesn't apply to Kendo or anything else with technique involved.

Amazing how opinions change too. The mrs videoed my last grading and thought I looked pretty good out there. Now, just over a year later, I can rip it to bits...

hehe, you're on the video too - sitting a row or two behind. Too busy shaking like a leaf to even watch me...

Good comeback, but we all know the truth... at least you explained the puddle under your seat.

Yep, once started its a bugger to stop

Actually the wetpatch was Graham T wetting himself laughing at some of the voting in the Taikai. It got even funnier when the normally inscrutable Japanese sensei started shaking their heads in disbelief at some of the decisions.

yeah, i agree, where i train one of the walls is like a big mirror, so i constantly check myself in it and that way i improve really quickly!
