Well the image of bogu looks borrowed from another site or is it yours?

Good luck with getting original content.

Forgot the quotes :P

I searched bogu and found the picture, however, a search for his articles just showed up a few article sites with that article submited. So, from what I know about IM, the articles were used to get traffic to the site.

AUSKF website?
Who do you think created that before it moved on?

The original site was by Tony Galvin. I took it over for a few years and then passed it on to the AUSKF to have someone else manage. Got a thank you plaque and a really nice hakama for that.

I had a lot of things I wanted to do with my own web site. Been too short on time this last few months due to all the kendo and health nonsense. Should have more time this year to get some new stuff up.

Sometimes having too much time is not so good either. I've been down with stage III cancer since I got home from the Dallas tournament last spring. Only got limited use of my left arm and hand a couple of weeks ago, just enough so I can sort of type. I am so bored.
In case I don't get a chance later I have to confess that I "borrowed" the bogu picture and re-wrote the kendo article, without attribution, 10 years ago for the American Judo and Jujitsu Federation magazine when I was editor. There, I feel better now.

As if you are the first. Most of the opening description of kendo on the AUSKF and my site is from earlier U.S. Championships programs. I added some of it.

My site has a lot of other content that I have written or created from sources and things I have been taught or gotten hold of over the years. Most of this stuff is not really new, just scattered all over. My effort is to bring it all together. It is not meant to replace books or training, but to give a place where you can get information when you are stuck. The Hakama folding gets a lot of traffic.

Make sure you take care of your health.

Thanks. I should add that my doctors are amazed that I have done so well. I attribute it to kendo training. When I got diagnosed they found my left lung had collapsed, probably about a year earlier but I was running around on just one because I trained so hard.
Funny, while we were waiting to make the entrance for the Dallas tournament, I was in such pain that I had to lie on the floor of the gym and struck up a conversation with Bob Souder from Tampa and we have since become pretty good friends. Kendo is really good that way.

To Kendoismylife: Back to the original issue here about the web site. Keep up the good work but if I can make a suggestion. While it is good that you are getting advertising from e-bogu, don't let it influence your content, e.g. stating that the majority of people buy their equipment from them. It may seem that way to you because they have a good price point for entry level equipment. In other words, keep your advertising and your content separate. The folks from e-bogu are nice and so are the folks from eguchi and the new korean place that recently opened (sorry, I can't rember their name) Be careful that you don't mistake advertising with fact or you will lose all credibility before you even get started.

Get your facts right first, is the best advice I can give you! The description of what kendo is, is pretty bad. What sources did you use? Anyone who knows anything about kendo will stop right there, as it shows you don't know the first thing about kendo, I'm afraid. The name was changed to kendo as a result of the world war?! Rooted in Buddhism?! Kumdo being kendo without the etiquette??!! kenjutsu is more of a "no rule/kill your enemy/not a sport" art?? Where are you getting these pearls of wisdom from?

As for 'kendo information not generally available to the public', if the opening text is any sample, its probably nothing anyone wants to know! A $260 value?!! Enormous amount of subscribers?!! You're not selling information about how I can make money helping you to transfer your money out of Nigeria, are you?

I'm sorry to sound negative, but you even use Chinese for the character for 'ken' in kendo, not Japanese! If I came across the site by chance, I would assume it is a sham site put up to suck in the unwary. The peppering of spelling mistakes and the above-mentioned bias would also give one that impression. The majority of kendoka (are in Japan, if you didn't guess) buy their gear from an American company? Given that your opening words show you have no understanding of when kendo was even developed, if I didn't know who e-bogu were, I would stay away from them if they had your recommendation as one of the BEST sites.

I'm sure you're trying to get the site up because you love kendo, and that's good to see, but your knowledge is lagging quite a bit behind your intentions. At the moment it looks like you love advertising more than kendo.

His profile reinforces this impression. There are five cues to his website.

I for myself don't like any pages that lack any clues about the person or organisation who maintain them, i.e. have no legal notice.

Facts are wrong and it's full of ads (which I ofcourse removed with AdBlock, but that's another story )
Besides, there is no information about what the newsletter will contain. I mean, for a list to be worth 260$ it must be some really heavy shit.

Run right out and buy the book, Web Pages That Suck. And they have a nice web site as well. Some of the best money I ever spent on a book.

The navigations is horrid, it is not consistent and it changes every time I click on a link. I think you'll have to think up a better navigation system. Drop down boxes are even cleaner than what you have now. Maybe you should try taking some ads down and use those space for nav...

The header banner doesn't line up with the content... didn't plan the width ahead, didn't you?

And some of the terms you used such as "Kendo Stick", I dunno, maybe it's just me. I feel it's a bit disrespecting to call it a stick especially you practice Kendo and you know it is more than a stick. At least call it a "Bamboo Sword" or something.

And running a site this big will be really hard to maintain, if you haven't learned CSS, PHP and MySQL yet. Start learning them... they'll save you a lot of headaches later.

But besides that, you can get sued for stealing other site's contents without their permissions. Or just get a nice email, "I WILL KILL YOU if you don't take this/that down!!!" And when you DO steal something, make sure you modify the hack of it that no one can ever recognizes it.

Otherwise, good luck!

Hamish you're too polite, this is a thin veneer of a travesty inside a sham masquerading as a.... it's a salesman right?

A site that has all it's advertising in place, yet scant information about it's main subject - that riddled with errors, and furthermore needs to scratch around for content from other sites. I think the priorities are self evident...it's not a labour of love.

What kendo doesn't need, more intraweb misinformation...

Check out the dude's profile..

oops I just wet myself...

It's Gregory and a friend named Ardalan, in a fiendish plan to try and take over the world (or at least to score some cash-per-click ad bucks). Check the Whois info for that domain and the one in Gregory's sig line...(www.gooseandgeese.com)

Gregory are you Pinky or The Brain? BTW - your link has a bug in it.

I searched bogu and found the picture . . .
"Finding" things then publishing them (even on the internet) without permission from, or credit to, the original source (especially for commercial gain) smacks of plagiarism at the best, and copyright infringement at worst.

Perhaps we could hear some opinions of intellectual property law from some of the attorneys on site: Old Warrior - Are you still around?
