Default kendo sites web masters?
hola.

I'm pretty new at designing web sites. just completed one for our dojo.

www.cancunkenshi.com

and I would like to know a couple of things.
  1. Besides from asking valuable text links that point to your site, from similar pages, is there any other thing that can be done to help positioning your site?
  2. I'm sort of baffled at the fact that there are many options for submitting your site to search engines. Although I feel that reputable sites (google, yahoo, msn) follow the same pattern. you manually verify that you are not a robot, and thats it. but then are myriads of other sites that want to make jump hoop after hoop. seems fishy. also I did not liked the fact that some of the names on them are the same names responsible for the tracking cookies that I delete usingSpy-bot, Ad-aware, and microsoft anti-spyware, from my bussiness mail account. I dont know any thing about meta tags. maybe Im a little paranoid, so i deleted all their incoming mails, and did not completed the on screen forms. any of you can share some input?
  3. Last, Im trying for the site to become available to any interested visitor that is looking to train in Cancun, so if you can, please link the site to yours?
  4. Any more info and help will be gratly appreciated.
thank you

Go 'googling' for metatags, learn about them and add them to your site. That'll put you a lot higher on the search engines...

I find that we get more than enough traffic by posting links on KWF, handing out the url to everyone we know, and making sure the site is linked correctly from the national governing body's site. Never really bothered with search engine optimisation, though meta tags are the way to go for that.

I would say make sure there's a link to it from whatever kendo federation you belong to. Put a sign outside of your dojo with the url on it. Getting involved with search engines can get pretty messy if you don't know what you're doing.

Should have gone for caucunkendo.org instead of caucunkenshi.com, because URL is the first thing google or any web spiders will grab before contents. And .org/.edu gives you higher ranking comparing .com/.net supposedly according some analyst... and I wasn't that person so don't quote me. Though, even my current dojo website we hardly have any keywords in there. As soon as someone type in Minnehaha Kendo, it pops up as first. Since you've already bought the URL, it's pointless to change now. Meta tags, and starts using some Bold and Italics words in your content. Those are the second things web spiders are likely to pick up. But whatever you do, DO NOT SPAM such as having "Caucan Kendo" in the page for like 50+ times especially in invisible text (if you don't know this one, you don't have to worry about it), google will hate you and ban your site permanently. Good luck and gambatte!

meta tags are overrated. most search engine bots will ignore them. it's not as easy as editing your tags and bang, making it to the first search page...

have in mind bots are getting wiser with the day (hopefully won't rule the earth someday), and it's kinda hard to trick them nowadays. so what i suggest is you do an honest and nice page, with good content and easy navigation, this way eventually webmasters of the world will like it and link to it and you'll be on the top place on kendo searches. look:

The best way to ensure that Google finds your site is to have pages on other relevant sites to link to yours. Google's robots jump from page to page on the web via hyperlinks, so the more sites that link to your pages, the more likely it is that we'll find them quickly.
also, as mugu pointed out .com domains are meant to be used for commercial or profitable companies. if your dojo is not about it, you might consider changing to a .org next year and get better placement.

True. I haven't touched meta-tags for several years, and my homepage still pops up on google if you give it some relevant keywords.

also, as mugu pointed out .com domains are meant to be used for commercial or profitable companies. if your dojo is not about it, you might consider changing to a .org next year and get better placement. .org or whatever countrycode Mexico uses. Different countries have different rules for their toplevel domains though...
