Hi all! I don't know if this has been asked before, but just for kicks, lets hear stories about your more memorable injuries you receive from Kendo! By memorable it doesn't have to be serious ... it can range from your girlfriend making you sleep on the couch for the Kendo hickies to broken bones. I'm sure the older people have lots to tell? Just for pastime fun ... ^^

once i got a blister and it bled man ((((((((((((((((((
also, some month ago a newbie with conan strenght sayu-men dislocated my jaw. that hurt like a bitch for 3 weeks. you don't know what it's like to have to use your hands to open your mouth and insert some food in there, then use them to help your face muscles chew. furththermore, i couldnt even sing or go to karaoke. heartbreaking, i swear. lucky me(!?) another newbie summoned conan force and sayumen-ed my other cheek and put the damn jaw back into place. it's good to be able to gobble up food, chew, and sing again like i used to do before this whole conan trend. plus, french kiss dont hurt no more. and no sleeping in the couch crap. I'm sure the older people have lots to tell? wtf, are you calling me old?? :0 |

There were 3 instances...though only one was directly related to Kendo practice.
1. I was walking back to my dorm and the ground was icy. I slipped and fell on my wrist. The next morning, I went to the convenience store that was across the street and I fell again and landed on the same wrist. Needless to say, it hurt really badly and I had to skip a few practices due to that. 2. I dropped my friend off back to his place after a kendo practice. When I left his apartment, I twisted my ankle when I was going down the stairs (I was in the middle of corn fields in Indiana so there was no light). The worst part was that I heard a popping noice when it happened. I was able to drive home afterwards, but the inability to take aspirin and ibuprofen (allergic to both) really put me in a bad spot. Tylenol just doesn't help in this sort of situation so I resorted to ice. 3. I don't know what happened during Kendo practice, but at the end, I wasn't able to sit in seiza because I had a muscle spasm under my left foot. It got better really quickly though. |

Come on guys, he's getting a little better now. Give him a second chance If you decide to get a heel protector Mugu-san, order a few to try them out. A heel protector can make you fall if you get the wrong one. I had ordered two, and I kept only one. The other was too fat and thick around the heel and nearly made me fall, but the other was slimmer and strong, and I didn't go sliding all over so I kept that one(The one I used at practice in Dec.). Plus, I can't feel the wood floor. It's comfy, but I prefer fumikomi without it even though I have to wear it. So, be careful what you get. The last thing you need, is a fall thanks to a foot protector. Kaoru |

Oh and I forgot to mention my big bruise on my right wrist after receiving Kote from my sensei... thank whoever invented the "chinese lotion" stuff, it worked like a charm. Bruise gone away in 3 days. |

This is getting interesting ^^ thanks all for sharing
hahah Scott mann ... you're lucky, I got to whisper to your next opponent and arrange for him/her to try and aim for the achilles ... may be that'll do something hehe Paburo haha no direct intention there Mugu, I had the same experience Kaoru did ... a whole damn week too. Yes, the heel protector helps but as your sensei said, after a long time you'll become dependent upon it ... so it's best to take Kaoru's suggestion in my opinion, try landing with the whole feet, that's the same advice my sensei gave me Keep 'em coming ... |

Yeah the encounter might turn into a live blade no contest for the benefit of Scott
Back to the subject: Beside the occasional blisters, i hurt my right foot's heel which made me realize the hard way that the sound one makes when doing fumikomi isn't about stomping as hard as you can, another one which comes to mind is when i was motodachi for kote waza drills many training sessions in a row, hehe my kiai did get better though because i kiai(ed) my guts out while pushing the pain limit with each passing dojomates. I used to train 3 times a week back then, wednesday nights, friday nights and saturday mornings. |

lol Scott ... I wouldn't endanger anyone's life then hehe we'll let you hold the invincible title
Hisham, that's another good story about the heel for Mugu ... personally I think everyone misunderstood and have done that sometimes along the beginning of their Kendo life?? Or is that a generalisation ... I don't know ... yep I agree with you there, Kote is a killing move ... Musashisson that's the spirit! You should get the spirit award ... I always attended class too whenever I'm injured and cannot play (due to a huge ass blister on the underside of my foot, we're talking the whole upper part of the foot, nasty stuff ... and it happened twice!!) you could learn a lot from watching couldn't you? I was surprised on my first time watching (long ago), and it gives you this horrible itch that you want to play, makes you extra annoyed about the injury hehe My friend KendoISB has some great stories that I've witnessed ... wish he'd share, not very plesant though, lol ... well I won't spoil it for you guys, rather let him tell it himself where ever he is now |
