I was wondering what reference books people are using for kendo at the minute? I've got Kendo Fundamentals, Vol 1 & 2 by All Japan Kendo Federation. They are quite good in that they give the very basics in a no frills way, despite being very badly translated, though for me that adds to the charm of the books.
I know you can't learn kendo from a book (pre-empting the posts telling me so) but I do find it useful to look over my last session of keiko in a book. Cheers Tim W. |

In that case, you are excused from the torment. As long as you are attending real practice with a real sensei/sempai then you are using the books for their true intention. Is that the one by Daniel Craig? |

i have number of books at home.. this is kendo.. definitive kendo.. kendo fundamental 1 and 2.. and even dvd.. but none of them goes into detail like sensei at the dojo. so they more or less collect dust in my room.
i do, however, go over my old copies of kendo nippon occationally. i can't read japanese, but the pictures showing certain techniques are detailed enough to be interesting. i do read 'looking at the far mountain' occationally for kata. that books very helpful in giving detail on the kata. pete |
