Default Hair?!
'K, I've got long hair... Besides getting my hair tangled in my men himo, I've got really bad split ends... I'm not being really girly about this, I don't give a shit about a few split ends, but I look like an angry cockatoo... Besides obvious teasing, does anyone have any, sugestions, or at least, are there other people with the same problem? Just courious, I haven't seen many kendoists with long hair so I haven't really had a chance to ask.

I have a friend who has long hair, she braids it before class, then after class, she unbraids it so she can shampoo in the shower. My other suggestion would be pony tail, or at least, instead of braiding it, use a bunch of elastic bands in a row to work your way from scalp to tip of the hairs.

Don't cut it if you don't have to or don't want to!

I have long hair myself. It goes down to the middle of my chest. I'm not sure how long yours is but what I do is I put it in a pony tail with 2-4 elastic bands. Everytime I take my men off, I have to tighten the bands because they come loose. The only problem I have with my hair is when I tie my men himo and the hair gets tangled in it.

I love having short hair! But if I decide to get an afro, I wonder what I should do then since my hair tends to grow out instead of down. Maybe then I would get corn rows or something.

I have the same problem my hair is about 16 inches long. I've been measuring it bc i plan to cut it and donate it. Anyways, I usually just braid it or put it in a low bun.

One girl at my dojo has really long hair. She braids it or puts bands in it. I also ha problems though, my hair is really thick and a bit long, although not long enough to tie. It looks like a slighly more curly versiion of this. While it is not long enough nor the right kind to get caught in the hmo it does take a bit of space and makes tying the tenugui difficult. Any tips?

i have takezo/musashi length hair, and i have no problems with it (right now is longer than the icon, which is a pic of me took around a year ago)

the way to go is top knot / maage learn from the samurai haha.

the topknot should be tied just in the top-back of the head (not really at the very top of the head, cause you wouldnt be able to put men on correctly then).

having your hair this way, when you put men on it will protect the back of your head from treachearous men uchi from the back and kensens bending too much.

also, theres a girl in my dojo with the longest and most beautiful hair ever. her hair is way past her butt and still growing. its so long she could use her hair as deadly kusari(gama).

I have long hair down to the middle of my back that gets a little curly at the ends and I don't have too much a problem with it.
Could you please describe your hair a little bit more? Is it wavy, curly, straight? Does it have a lot of body? Is it naturally frizzy? Stuff like that.

I think Wes Nazo is a hairdresser? ;-)

Joehannah: You can tie the tenugui low on your head so that it covers the hair, and make sure that the knot of the himo is on top of that. Hairy himo knots aren't sexy.

You can also use wax or something to keep the hair in place. Don't use to much hairproducts if you sweat a lot, it can get in your eyes.

I've got semi long wavy/curly hair. Before practice I usually just apply lots of gel and shift my hair back. If you use waterproof gel then it will stay in place and nothing will get in your eyes.

A guy at my dojo has really long hair. He does this thing were he pulls it back and tucks it under, it's not real discriptive, but I hope it will give you a visual...

Nothing better than a "budhist monk haircut", the tenugui will stick to your head as if you used a glue. Talking from experience.

Yup. Get out the straight razor and you'll be shining with the best of us in no time. Skip the coffe that morning though...

I have medium length hair. I haven't noticed any split end problems yet. *knocks on wood* Here's what I do: spray on some leave-in conditioner (when I remember) and put my hair up in one of four different ways (french braid, double french braid, low ponytail using snagless elastics, or a twist secured with a clip). The twist is the one with the highest ouch factor but looks the best.

Went with the teacher's "haircut" and it was worth it, no more tenugi related visibility problems from that day on, didn't know about the coffee thing, what is it about?

when you take your men off .. try reaching back and grabbing the knot and pulling the whole thing over your head infront of your face... then untie it from the front while looking at it... the loops won't pull any of your hair up through the knot that way

I pull mine back into a braid when i'm feeling triple jointed .. otherwise I just use 2 or 3 ties to hold it back

Just join the shining heads club, the experience is liberating, the door is also open to the girls, no discrimination whatsoever, think about it, you won't have to stay that long facing a mirror .
If this ad succeeds, many male phantasies will be shattered but for the best, no more distractions in the dojo
