Default New to Kendo... A Noob?
Didn't spot anything on people new to Kendo so I started this little thread.

It looks very exciting to say the very least.

You mean just because I have been studying/teaching/killing for 40+ years, and am a 12th dan grand master in katana-ryu sword-justu, someone should have heard of me?

Sheesh.

Talk about pressure.

Yep it does happen that people just by chance may actually know you.
I have acctually been practicing Shotokan Karate for the last 10 years. So I'm only a noob concerning the use of weapons as an art.

I wonder if there's a record of the number of injuries incurred by noobs studying JSA with real swords - injuries to themselves, to their partners, and any other innocent bystanders..........

I am so glad that I didn't go into kendo with preconceived notions about my abilities to handle a sword. My senseis are both very good instructors and have been very patient towards my learning. I'm not sure they're going to dispair of me, but I sometimes wonder if I'm going to dispair of myself for repeating the same mistakes.........

Congratulations!
But one month of keno and you've already written 115 posts?
Perhaps you could do a little more suburi and a little less time online.

If they are studying a Japanese sword art, which means with a legitimate instructor, their chances of injury are actually very slight. If they are trying to learn something without a legitimate instructor, then they are just playing with swords and aren't actually studying JSA. I frequently hear of injuries from this group.

I see that happen quite a bit around here...
What is there to add to a discussion on kendo and kendo related matters from someone who hasn't even yet started kendo?

"So... you hit each other with sticks do you...?".

As much as it bugs me that I can't know everything about kendo now, I think there should be a little disclaimer each time you start a new thread saying something like:

Are you sure what you are posting here can't be answered by either asking your sensei or doing some more suburi?

I think the forums would be a lot quieter.

Not that I don't enjoy the quite tasty flavour of sarcastic banter around here, it helps me cope with mondays that much easier.

i joined just in case there was something i needed to ask that i couldn't ask anyone else because of that fact that i wasn't already in a dojo..simple things like, am i getting a good deal, or are there any hidden dojos in my area that i didn't know about. And you don't gotta be so hard on ppl who haven't joined yet and are in the forums, what are forums for if not for asking?
