Anybody up in here planning on going to the Seminar on the weekend of May 20 at Tennessee Meiji Gaikuin (TMG) in Sweetwater, TN?

I think Memphis is going to have a contingency of about 10-12 people...

We've got 7 or 8 adults who will be testing for the first time.
1 will test for nidan...
1 will test for sandan (if they have enough to make up the right panel)..

I'm really looking forward to going to this since I haven't been to anything in a couple of years I think... It'll be good to see some familiar faces again.
(I really hope Lew Murphy and Mrs. Hoang will be there because I really need to talk to them!)

The new guys are really excited as well and we've told them this should be a good chance to meet a lot of people they should be seeing for the next several years.

Two of us will be getting up there Friday evening (don't know if we'll make the practice). Might drop by to see who else is there and maybe we can all hit a bar afterwards???

I fully expect the DeSouza clan (from GKA) to be there... especially at the bar!!!

Mr. and Mrs. Hoang will be there. Can't speak for Lew Murphy. My husband and I are also going to go. We're going to both try testing for Sandan.

Miyu-san, that is WONDERFUL...

You can probably help me out, too.
We have a teenage girl (Korean-American) and she'll be testing for the first time. She's doing really quite well... her movement is pretty good, her swing is pretty good... kiri-kaeishi is fine..
I *think* she likes kendo and wants to continue doing it and get better at it.
She's just missing that *something* to get her moving a little faster and with a little more authority.

I'm hoping that maybe by just watching some other girls that have been doing this for a little while (you, Mrs Hoang, the DeSouza women, etc.) that maybe something will click in her mind. ...especially in how they geiko against men. I think she's just a little timid about going against all the guys and can't quite get over it.

If none of you girls get a chance to geiko with her, I hope some of you can manage to meet her and maybe at least talk to her a bit... might give her a good or better perspective.

no idea. i've only had a chance to read two of the pre-quels.. they've come up with several others that i just haven't gotten to..
the original 6 were great... i understand #7 is in the final editing process.. no idea when it'll release. should be a good one.

gas prices will be the biggest obstacle for our group...
We normally try to pile as many into sensei's van as possible and split up the gas.
...also try to pile as many into one hotel room as possible.

one year, we managed 6 guys in a motel 6 room with one bed...
(take the mattress off the box springs = two 'beds' ... two on the mattress, one on the box springs, two somewhere on the floor, one in the bathtub)..
...that was a little extreme, but we were ALL short on money that time...
