Depends on the hit. I mean, I've been hit on the head without a men but the guy who did it (by accident) had such good tenouchi it didn't even hurt much, just stung for a couple hours. If the person strikes with their shinai like a baseball bat and follows through with their strike then I suppose it might be possible?

Or toe, that actually happened to someone I know before... Broken toe with a shinai?? How did that happen? I nearly broke my toe when I dropped my bokken on it... whilst it was in its wooden saya but a shinai strike? What were they doing to get their toe in the way of a strike???? This is gonna be a funny story, I hope.

i hear its a good idea to wear forearm pads just in case I've heard some motodachis doing that when they know they're going to be hit by beginners who think they're trying to club baby seals to death.

Well, the toe wasn't broken by the shinai. In keiko, this guy was attacking another guy, and he broke his toe attacking....

Oh blah. That's not in the least bit amusing. I'm disappointed. We had a guy do something similar, though I didn't actually see it. This guy ripped his toenail on someone.. and that someone happened to be a podiatrist (I can never remember his damn name so I always refer to him as "the Podiatrist" - hope he never finds out.. should find out what his name is, I suppose), so anyway, the podiatrist finds the nearest smoker to borrow their lighter so he can sterilise a pocket knife and doctors the foot then and there.

Now that's a decent toe story.

But as the question was being struck I was hoping for something like "this kendoka got bored and started disco dancing in the dojo, doing that thing where they spin on their back and one of the other kendoka's got really irrate and so attacked him, breaking his toe". Now that would have been cool.

haha. Well, it's kinda funny if the guy who broke the foot is a 220lbs big korean guy while the guy who got his foot broken was a 140lbs skinny white guy... And the foot/toe were damaged so badly that he had to be in a cast for over a month... And the fact that we can make fun of the korean all the time for it.

Well.... hmm... I suppose that does make it a bit better. All right, I'll admit it, it made me laugh so that's okay. You're off the hook.

(can you tell I'm feeling better guys? It's 1:00am and I'm up writing BS posts. Should go to bed soon so I don't relapse and can't train monday...)

From hearing about kenjustu practioners sparring without armour, the items of armour they always keep are the helmet and the gloves. (wish I knew the names.)

Ive been told that quite a while a go at my dojo (before my time) someone had their arm fractured by a bad kote strike.
I had a lump on my head after training on wednesday after a really really really hard men cut from one of the guys - and Ive got a thick protector inside my men too!!
I was not impressed!!
