Anybody else see the new Jet Li movie? I believe that it is based around the actual life of a celebrated chinese kung-fu master who ended up actually fighting against english boxers, spanish swordsman, and even Japanese samurai and beating them. This is rumored to be Jet Li's final period movie and although it doesn't IMHO match his greatest movie "Fist of Legend", it is well made and a must watch for all fans of the genre.

No word yet on a US release, but you can pick it up on BT. Can't wait for the US release so I can add it to the collection.

From what I've read, Fearless should be released in the US later this year. I loved Hero, and though I think this one will be a different type of movie, I'm looking forward to it.

An interesting thing I heard was that in Fearless he plays the poisoned master of his character in Fist of Legend. (I think that's true)
Anyone know when it'll be released in Britain?

NO that should be Bruce Lee's sifu who got poisoned in "Fist of Fury".

But then the Japanese weren't the Kidou-ryu Jujitsu gang on reverse hakama as in the 1972 movie... In this 2006 version Jet Li was against a mad guy from Kukishin-ryu (which is also a real multi-discipline ryuha)...

The movie was release during Chinese New Year (late Jan 06) in Hong Kong, and the DVD has been released since earlier this month.

People who use BT to download movies has no shame whatsoever...

I admit to using BT but i also buy the DVD when it's released. I have a curious nature and if it's available to me now, I just can't wait. For you to be saying that I have no shame whatsoever...I won't argue the point and assume that you have never downloaded anything off the internet and every file of music, image, program, or video on your computer was all purchased legally and you have receipts and hard copies of everying.

Aside from the whole piracy issue, Fearless is a great film. Download it now and watch it or wait until it's released to buy/rent it.

mmm I haven't heard of this new movie yet. Is it another Wong Fei Hung movie or something? It sounds like it the way you guys described it.

Jet Li starred in the remake of that film. (In my opinion about a million time better than the original.)

errmm you can get it now if you want.

Finally, an old fashion Chinese Kung Fu movie. Not the Hero and House of Flying Dagger craps - don't argue with my personal taste, both of them put me to sleep... especially the fight scenes.

P.S. - Thanks lemi

Ironic that wuxia films are actually the "old fashioned" kung fu films. Not anything against you, just something I've picked up on alot. Every so often I hear about people wanting "back to basics" MA films, which ironically means more chi wizards not fewer.

I can't believe an European is telling a Chinese that the Chinese don't know what an old fashion Chinese Kung Fu is, lol You have no idea when I said "old fashion". I grew up with this stuff, Hero and House of Flying Daggers are not old fashion Chinese kung fu stuff - in a matter of fact, the style was more modern and some call it "art" and I agree with it. Therefore, it is not an old fashion kung fu wuxia film. A good old fashion chinese kung fu movie that you're calling wuxia films will make me want more, not make me want to sleep.

You can buy it right now it's true, but this version does not have english subtitles. Since I can't speak nor read either mandarin or cantonese, I'm going to wait for the US release.

You're 24, I guess you grew up in the golden age of kung fu films, the 80s...
Anyway as I said it wasn't directed at you. What I'm saying is that the original MA films, and we're talking 1920s-30s silent films here, were wuxia pien films. Chi wizards galore!

Actually, old school wuxia movies involved wire work so movies like CTHD and HoFD are basically old school and there isn't anything new or revolutionary about them. They're just shot on better film with better CGI scenes in the latter.

Bruce Lee actually hated this sort of film and he wanted to move away from wires and special effects and show "real" martial arts. Unfortunately after his death, realistic martial arts movies from Hong Kong almost dissapeared until "fist of legend". Fearless is more "reality" based and although I can't say if there was any wire work involved in the shooting, everything seems to be focused on showing as much realism as possible. Well...one guy taking on a group w/o getting hit is a bit unrealistic, but you get the gist of what i'm saying.

I always found this odd, As far as I can tell Wuxia even when they were novels were not about realistic MA, I've often heard them called historical fantasy. Charges of a lack of realsim seem similiar to calling Starwars unrealistic.

I know I was just kidding with the 80s commment. What kind of films do you mean, titles?
