Default Reading Japanese Addresses
Hi All,

I have a Japanese address in Tokyo but I want to find out where it is. Can anyone teach me how to read the address, or if there is a good website that explains it well.

I might be stubborn but where is Tokyoto? Is that central tokyo?

If anyone knows of a good website where I can put in addresses and it shows the location on a map, that would be good. Thanks

Regards,
KendoPadawan

Dunno about online address finders..I use a map here..But the way to read the address is fairly straight forward..If different from other countries methods..
My old address here was;
202-0002
東京都
武蔵村山市
神明4丁目5番地の2

This reads in English/Romaji as;

Tokyo to (Tokyo prefecture)
Musashimurayama Shi (Musashimurayama City)
Shinmei 4 chome (4th designated section of Shinmei-area of city-)
5 Banchi no 2 (5th section inside the 4th are of Shinmei, block number 2).
Then lastly is the postcode..202-0002
If you have a map you look first for Tokyo prefecture. Then for Musashimurayama City, then Shinmei, then the number 4, then the block that is counted as number 5....That was my house.
Simple ne?

And to add to the fun, in Tokyo buildings were numbered in the order they were built. So you can only get the location down to an area of a few blocks based on the address. Maybe one block if you're particularly lucky.

Google maps works pretty well with Japanese addresses.
