Missing Canadian boys safe as pedophile surrenders Wed Aug 2, 6:50 PM ET
TORONTO (Reuters) - The family of a 10-year-old Canadian boy alleged to have been abducted by a convicted pedophile said on Wednesday he will recover from the ordeal that ended with the suspected kidnapper's surrender. ADVERTISEMENT "He is a very strong boy and he will get better," Zachary Miller's father Lyle told an emotional news conference in Broadview, Saskatchewan, a day after the boy escaped at an abandoned farm in the western Canadian province. Suspected kidnapper Peter Whitmore, 35, was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, but police have not said what charges will be filed against him. Whitmore gave himself up late on Tuesday after a nine-hour standoff at the farm near Kipling, Saskatchewan, where he was hiding from a large manhunt with Miller and a 14-year-old boy from Winnipeg, Manitoba. "My son has done everything I knew he would to get away," Lyle Miller said, wiping away tears. The second boy, Jordan Bruyere, was also released safely. Police launched a national manhunt after Miller was reported missing on Sunday and authorities realized Whitmore was a suspect in the case. Media reports indicate Bruyere may have been with Whitmore for several days longer. Whitmore has served numerous prison sentences and been rearrested within weeks of his release on several occasions, either for new offenses or for violating terms of his release. The case prompted widespread concern that Canada's sentencing laws were not tough enough. "There has to be a better way of ensuring that repeat sexual offenders who are plainly incurable and utterly incapable of controlling their violent impulses do not roam the country freely," the Globe and Mail newspaper said in an editorial. "It should be possible to have sexual predators declared a threat to society without having to wait for them to commit more than one or two heinous crimes." Whitmore's own lawyer has said Whitmore responds to tough controls, but the authorities erred in not renewing restrictions on his movements. The last statement by his lawyer just left me lost for words...basically it says, oh, my client obeys the law when its enforced...its not his fault he did what he did...its the government's fault for not keeping tabs on him. Pedo's should be shot. |

I'd like to expand that to rapists in general. All those in favor say 'Aye'. I think that's just as bad to be honest but in those cases. There was a Dutch soccer player who had this going on he had to sit in jail for 2 weeks while he was innocent. It's that he was mentally strong enough that he got past this all but something like this can really ruin someone. It was Robin van Persie one of the Dutch National Team players. |

I think innocent men are victimised because the truth is that there ARE men out there who are sexual predators and the truth of the matter is that there are more men out there who rape women, than women who 'cry wolf'. Of course I think it's very wrong to frame somebody for a crime, but especially a sex crime.
The truth of it is that because women have always been regarded as the 'weaker' gender, society usually sides with them. |

Its no easy thing, but at the moment, the safest option by far is to stick them away until its proved they DIDN'T do it. That doesn't help any falsely accused poor sod who gets framed though. |

I think they did that in Casuarina Prison in Perth to David Birnie. David and his sicko wife abducted young girls and women for him to rape and then murdered them. When he was sent to prison.. the guvner 'accidentally' let him into the local prison community where he got his balls clapped between two bricks. |

Stuff like this really rile me up. I hate pedos, and rapists in general. Me and my mates were having a discussion about this, well, something similar. It was about that "Megan's Law" (UK verison "Sarah's Law") For anyone unfamiliar with this, its basically a law that people want where the government allow controlled access to the Sex Offenders Register so parents with young children can see if a child sex offender is living in their area. If you cruise through www.crimelibrary.com you'll see tons of these sicko's and how they 'escaped' the system. |

Sexual predators never reform. Look at Gary Glitter, he was busted in the UK for child porn. He went to cambodia and was expelled for suspision of child sex crimes. Finally, he was convicted in Vietnam for that exactly. |

Uh-oh. I await Runsyi's reply. I predict 5 pages. In all seriousness, I believe that the legal system is the best option we have so far. There is a lot of "the criminals have more rights" shit going on but isn't that better than a "Minority Report" society where we lock people up because of what they may do? And yes, I realize that the judical process is screwed up at times, but when everyone involved--judge, jury, laywers--are human what do you expect? There is no guaranteed system that will punish the guilty and protect the innocent 100% of the time. You don't like it? Get involved and shape the laws, organize a victim's rights group, make sure your children are well-educated and watch them so they don't end up a victim. |

I tell people that when the police kick their door in in the middle of the night and drag them and their loved ones out into the street at gunpoint, maybe they should call a plumber or one of the guys that say "kill them all and let god sort it out" Oh wait, too late for that when you are the one they are "sorting out". |
