Default What do the bottoms of your shoes look like?
Anyone notice that the wear pattern on their shoes is different after they started kendo? it seems i wear out the balls of the tread alot faster... i must be sliding around sometimes without thinking about it.

If you have running shoes, the front will almost always wear out faster than the heels. Shoe companies usually make the heel of the sole out of a hard compound rubber with high abrasion-resistance, and the forefoot is softer for better shock attenuation.

But, I get what you're saying.

I forget where I picked this up, it's a story about a sensei who would look at sandals of visiting pupils that were outside the dojo, and by that, he could tell how good a person was and if the person had any weakness, by the way the soles wore out.

Yeah, barefoot is a lot more comfortable than sandals for me. Everytime I wear my sandals (size 16's, mind you), I feel like I'm getting plantar fasciitis. Thanks, Kendo! Hahaha.

ive always walked barefoot around the house and garden on account of the fact that im not a slipper person, and get shouted at if i walk dog hairs through on socks.

just had a look at my shoes-really need to buy some new ones.
the soles are worn away at the heel and the ball of the foot. (this could be because of the shape of my feet (they are pointy in these places)
and the right is worse than the left (perhaps because i limp slightly)
ah see, you can tell alot about a person by their shoes

I gone through three pair of shoes since I began Kendo.
Currently mine again look like a Sembe cracker. (Paper thin)

i suggest getting better shoes.
i have a pair of grinders (great british made-unlike sellout docs) and they will take forever to wear down.
the best trainers i have had are jordan airs and skater ones. they last the longest, but with me thats still not very long
and as for socks? i really need to learn how to darn
