There are some good American horror movies right? Saw II was pretty good right? I am not saying that Grudge 2 was bad. Just like Juon 2, Grudge 2 has several story lines. Some of the twists in Grudge 2 are pretty cool (although some have mentioned a little predictable). But there is one story line in Juon 2 that is freaking freaky. It is the one where the detective hears the thumping on the wall. I won't give it away for those who have not watched it, but I thought it was good at the time I watched it.

SAW was so sad... the first one I actually really liked all the way up to the ending... earlier in the movie the dude used his shirt (or something like that.. been a while) to drag something out of reach to him... um.. so at the end instead of doing the same thing he cuts his foot off... so sad.. it's like they named the movie first then had to justify it at the end

SAWII was worse... not one person just popped a hole in the wall and walked out of the house... not one... hey I know... lets torture ourselves over the next few hours instead of knocking off some plaster OMG!!! the window has a board nailed across it... there's no way out!!!

There are some good American Horror Movies... Chopper Chicks in Zombietown and The Killer Shrews come to mind and who can forget Attack of the Killer Tomatoes?

I have to say that I agree that the Japanese originals of Ju-On, Ringu & Dark water where better that the US remakes... but to be fair it's the same with the re-makes of The Texas chainsaw massacre and The hills have eyes.

The re-make of The Texas chainsaw massacre I thought was very good the did justice to the heart of the original, it was a bit 'change the story... why? to improve it?... no we need to show off our latest effects!!' but as a whole it worked really well... The hills have eyes... now... that was a real turkey!!! the re-make took everything that made the original good and threw it away and kept just the offal!!!

It's not fair to say that because they have re-made a Japanese film it's not as good as the original, a re-make from any genre, culture or country is usually not as good.

By the way did you know that they've started work on Ju-on III in Japan... US aren't the only country that smells money from a well timed sequel!!!

I hear tell that there's an American Remake of Battle Royale in the works, but I haven't found any solid evidence yet. Has anyone else heard about this?

I've heard the same rumour I sincerely hope that they do not go forward with it if they are planning such a movie.

No, thank you Ignatz. May you continue to eat corn in a barn and inbreed happily ever after. And may all of us Americans continue to fail to compete with the accomplishments and ingenuity of the rest of the modern word for all eternity. After all, that must be how we got to where we are today.
Yes of course. And tell me again, where are these fabulous countries with their accomplishments and ingenuity?
P.S. I'll breed with my cousin and leave the barnyard animals to you.

This has been a long standing rumour, but I've not seen any proof of it yet. I really can't imagine anyone getting funding for an American BR remake given all the school violence that has been happening in North America recently.

Anything is possible of course, but I would imagine political reactionaries would tee off on the idea.

Wasn't there a novel about some kids on speed blowing up a bridge? I can't recall the name of the novel.

I'm actually somewhat looking forward this project, should it ever see the light of day. I mean, let's face it, the original BR movie (not the novel) was pretty much just intended to be one big blood bath. Hell, the Special Edition DVD even had extra blood digitalized in. Unfortunately, it all looked really crappy. I'm hoping that if Hollywood gets ahold of it, they'll atleast make it look better then the Japanese did. I mean, lets face it, if there's one thing that Hollywood is good at, it's gruesome, pointless violence.

That being said, I hope they still keep the Hatchet scene. That part gets me every time.

You run into a cultural hiccup there right? I mean American schoolkids have a tendency to blow each other away with assault rifles every so often so I'd imagine there would be a lot more controversy surrounding an American version than the original Japanese one.

Yeah, the concept wouldn't be nearly as novel in North American terms, I mean, there have been lots of films about average people being coerced into participating in some sort of homicidal "game", the shock with BR was the age of the participants.

That kind of loses it's effect when kids are killing each other in real life.
