Default grudge
whats all this milarky about a second american grudge film?
was there ever a second japanese one?
i do like japanese horror, it makes me jump unlike most 'horror' films
(although when i tried watching the dubbed version it took the edge off slightly )
why do the american film industry feel the need to steal and remake these classics?

Squeeze all the money out of everything you can... then make another... it's the american way. If they didn't make a sequel, Bush woulda prolly had them arrested as traitors.

A sequel to "Behind Enemy Lines" is kind of like a "Director's Cut" for "Highlander". What exactly is the point?

The point is the difference between having a dead horse and beating a dead horse. Either way you are stuck with a dead horse.

The japanese "grudge 2" or juon 2 is pretty freaky. I saw the american "grudge 2" this weekend. Not bad, but the japanese one was a lot better.

u know what
i really dont know why a american intent of a horror movie sels more than actually "the" movie. i saw grudge and it was G R E A T (usually i dont like japanese stuff besides kendo and some food. coz i find it weird like otaku stuff) but this movie where just beyond my expectatives...

i think most people wont see it coz it isnt made in U:S:A

Well, first off, both the American version and the japanese version were directed by the same fellow...who also directed the secone American film. Ju-On actually its start as a t.v. movie if memory serves correctly. The main difference is much the same as the differences in the American Ring versus Ringu. The Japanese concept of horror is much more subtle and is more about a foreboding atmosphere than the outright scares of north american films.

And yes...they remade Dark Water as well.

Yes, not only does America suck, but every movie made here sucks. In fact, everything about America sucks. It is a horrible country and I can not for the life of me understand why people from all over the world want to come here. Maybe it is because they have done such a great job with their pathetic little second rate, third world countries, that they feel obliged to help us. Thank you.

Well, to make a person feel uneasy about something they don't see is always going to be better than just trying to scare them with gore and graphics. It is the simple nuiance of horror that most modern American horror movies lack.

The people paying the $8 really don't give a load about nuance. They want it in their face. It is called the "entertainment business" for a reason. I'm not saying that this is necessarily good, it is just the way it is.

I have run into several graduates of well known film schools and I wonder what it was they did there. The sheer volume of important films that they never saw is staggering. I guess they sat around talking about important stuff like "what they want to say" instead of stupid stuff like "what the audience wants to see".

I always thought that there was a guy that worked for the studio who's job it was to cut 5 minutes out of the finished film so that it doesn't make any sense at all. I have recently found out that such a person is called "producer".

Sydney Lumet said something like the only people who he couldn't work with were producers and teamsters, neither one of which were interested in making the movie that everyone else was making.

Not just American. Most horror movies anywhere are relying more on effects than effective creation of atmosphere, it is hardly a theme localized to the U.S.

Plus, there is a movement towards 70's style grindhouse horror. This is not really a lack of creativity in young horror directors, this is what they grew up on, George Romero zombie flicks, early Wes Craven stuff like The Hills Have Eyes and Last House on the Left, they are simply reflecting the influences of their youth.

No, thank you Ignatz. May you continue to eat corn in a barn and inbreed happily ever after. And may all of us Americans continue to fail to compete with the accomplishments and ingenuity of the rest of the modern word for all eternity. After all, that must be how we got to where we are today.

Well, like euclid pointed out, they were both directed by the same guy, so there isn't much difference story wise. Pretty much, The Grudge and Ju-on were the same exact thing, only that the grudge was about Americans living in Japan, rather than actual Japanese people like in Ju-On.

To be honest, I found both movies (Grudge 1 & 2) to be very predictable, so I wasn't very scared when I saw them. There were some scenes in Grudge 2 that surprised me, but that was more in the sence of "Huh, didn't see that coming," then it was "OMG!! AHHHHHHHH!"

I did enjoy seeing them though, if for no other reason then I think that a bunch of teenage girls stuck in a theater screaming their heads off at any little thing to be really funny.
