And aint America so perfect....one word "GUNS"
gun is not really an issue. believe it or not there are more people killed by car then guns every year, at least in america. should be ban car because cars kill people? or should we just prevent people from driving.

it's like knife thing in scotland. does the knife really kill people? or is it the people using knife to kill people. believe it for not, if someone really wants to kill someone, they will find a way to do it with or without knife, gun, poison, or spoon. if someone really wants to, they can make weapon out of almost anything.

What about drive-by shootings? A gun and a car. That's kind of like getting a BJ and your salad tossed.

depends on what type of drive by shooting you are talking about. if it's japanese style, it won't hurt anyone. just lot of clicking on SLR.

Guns dont kill people, people kill people... etc etc we've all heard if before numerous times. I think its a bit naive. Sure, people will find a way to harm, kill, whatever... but do we really need to make it easier? I mean, I assume its a lot easier to shoot someone than to stab them (perhaps multiple times)? And there is more chance of accidental shootings than accidental stabbings, right? And there have been cases where very young kids have found their dads pistol in the cupboard and - thinking it was a toy - shot their siblings. etc etc etc etc

As for cars, i'm all for a ban! They are dirty monsters that pollute the environment and contribute to death, waste, and health defects in many ways more than just via accidents.

There are things scarier in Scotland than haggis... I can show you. Mr Viking, if you want to find a dojo I can probably help or point you in the right direction.

Commanders sense of humour was never wet in the first place.

I'm a veggie, so I will TAKE both BJ and salad, but not from anyone on this forum, and certainly not tossed.

They banned humor in Scotland because it was often fatal. Savages they are. Luckily George has spent enough time in Japan to break out of the mold.

Hi guys,

I have just pulled the following quote from the "Scottish Executive - Justice Department" website:

"Legislation, to be introduced to Parliament later this year, will make it an offence for anyone to sell swords in Scotland other than for a legitimate purpose specifically exempted in law, including religious, cultural and sporting purposes."

It looks as though this is the law being implemented is on the Sale of sword only (and about time) and sword for Iaido and other martial atrs will still be allowed.

Throwing a sword from 20 yards may not have the same outcome as a bullet from a gun.

Just a thought.
But either way, banning whatever weapon your're talking about only takes them away from the people who are basically law-abiding. There's a reason these folks are called "criminals". Look at how well making drugs illegal has worked - the people who don't care about the law have them anyway. The difference is that a bag of dope doesn't give a scumbag an advantage when trying to rob you, the weapon he has and you don't because it's illegal does.

I hate to get into a gun debate but... it's really hard to compare the situation in the US with other countries. Banning or restricting handguns in the US would probably do very little as you say because there is such a huge supply. However in Canada where they have been severely restricted for as long as I can remember, the result is the supply of guns becomes very low. You just don't see that many criminals with guns here, and so the gun crime rate is quite low relatively speaking. We've got plenty of long guns but a 30-06 isn't all that useful in a mugging.

So when people start spouting statistics, remember that comparing the US with other countries in this regard is very much apples and oranges.

There's a big cultural difference, too. Americans have this huge attachment to guns that the rest of the world often heaves a collective "huh?" at. Taking them away is a motherhood issue in the US.

I know exactly what you mean by that, and I agree with you that guns can be used as defense against something like a robbery. But I'm just saying in this particular case, it can be possible to prevent some deaths from happening all together.

Don't get me wrong, I know that guns are here to stay (especially here in America) and are efficient in what they do.

Like I said, I agree with what you're saying in that banning guns will only take them away from people who legally have them in the first place, but arming all in this sense may lead to some new phenomenon in the US. A lot of people get very angry and a lot of people wish they had a gun...

I'm sure you are very capable.

Well rather than use guns or swords on would be attackers, perhaps the humourless Scots could use their wit to down their assaliant? Commander Sarahs case would be special.

In the U.K. "mold" refers to fungi. Gotta use-the-U old man, use-the-U !
