Default new BKA website
Has anybody seen the new BKA website.

I'm just wondering if everyone else has noticed that the link buttons on the left hand side are tiny. So tiny and faint in fact that I cannot read them at all.

Does anyone here know who deviesd the new set up and if so could you please ask them to change these link buttons so that are bigger and/or clearer.

many thanks

Lee

(would've contacted them directly from the site but I cannot see which button to use)

Looks OK to me, are you sure your text size isn't set to "small"?

Give the poor man a break, he's old and his eyes are weak.

Sweetie, get someone to change the settings so the font appears bigger on the screen, you poor old man.

And why haven't you PMd me? I leave in three days. Must be having a seniors' moment.

How would I know this? And how do I change this?

Not being funny but on my screen they are bloody tiny whilst the main text over and below the picture is fine. My Screen resolution is set at 1024 x 768 and this is spot on for all other text.

Advice very welcome

I have worked out how to do it.

all is well again.

I redid the new bka website and used an already available skin which I though was simple and effective. I realised that some people would complain about the size and also probably the colour of the links. I went ahead anyway.

My first priority was getting the site in a new format to help the people who are maintaining it do so easier.

Thoughts on design are welcomed in this forum, but I cant promise action. If you have input about content, then please contact the BKA directly.

Try using alt and or title tags on the links.. that way blind old people can hover their mouse cursor over the link and a textual representation will "pop up".

Images, yes, but is it not a bit pointless having a textual box for blind people on links?

Nothing against blind people (my mums registered blind) but i cant imagine there are many blind people doing kendo, nor reading the website. Anway, ive seen my mum browse the web, so im aware of that part of web development.

On a slightly different note, I did meet Evelyn Glennie (famous deaf percussionist) and do a kendo demo for her (I might even be in one of her dvds somewhere).

No.... this is called accessability, and its only one of the ways search engines will rank your site. so if you want to be up at the top... do it!

google search on "kendo" shows that bka site is #1 from google.co.uk and #3 on google.com (behind wikipedia and kendo-usa). Pretty good methinks.

Tough luck mum!

Hi George,

Just to say a good new version of the BKA site, well done.

Does this mean that Scott and you will be competing to see which site is the better?

Tough luck yourself......
Accessability is one means of optomisation.
Chances are you achieve high rankings due to links / visits / searches.

There is no competition between the iai/jo bu and the kendo bu. The two should coexist blissfully...

(I mean the websites AND the various bu!)
