I don't know the graphic novel - personally I prefer the pictures in my head to ones on paper - but the historical novel by Stephen Pressfield is fantastic. One of the best historical fiction I've read. It actually read like a 'Kendo book' to me. Well researched. Stuff like the Spartans using battle songs for breath control right at the point of battle commencing, while the less trained enemy were yelling and whacking themselves out to little purpose. Interesting stuff.

"The Spartans do not ask how many, but where they are."

(history channel can be as bad as hollywood though).
Hollywood is about entertainment, not your historical education. If people start thinking that what they see in a movie based on a historical event was what really happened, blame your education system, not Hollywood.

For some people....Hollywood movies are the extent of their education. Plus a few times tables....

This guy I knew from a class once talked about "Quantum Slipstream" from Star Trek Voyager as if it were a real thing that NASA could use for space travel.

Let's hope NASA can catch up to Hollywood ...

I think you misunderstood what I was trying to explain. Probably because of my substandard education and lack of intelligence. But thanks for taking a jab at my country's education system though.

So Frank Miller (who wrote the original graphic novel upon which the film is based) can't retell a story without embellishment? His main reason for writing the orginal nook was that he saw the film "The 300 Spartans" as a young man and it caught his imagination. I don't really have a problem with it. It is not as though they are trying to say that this is the way it REALLY happened, it's entertainment.
You missed my point. If they choose to alter facts they are aware of then they are open to criticism as much as any fictional movie.

-- I hope people don't spoil it by crying about unnecessary crap. I'm pretty sure i'm gonna enjoy it no matter what the baddies look like.
If people carping about the movie ruin it for you, you have bigger issues that this move.

Sounds like one big East vs. West killfest. Which is very similar to what we saw in the original Lord of the Rings book; the Arab-influenced Harad fighting alongside Sauron's army, as well as the slant eyed orcs which Tolkien confirmed in Letter 210. :P One of the monsters on the Persian side shown in the primary commercial even looks like a cave troll from the LOTR movies.

I wish my grandfather had told me more Persian ninja stories ...

There is no question that the allies of Sauron were swarthy heathen. This never bothered me much since they were not the major subject of the book. LOTR always read more like a travel log of a real place to me. Where you travel through a series of fallen and corrupted societies that are no longer capable of watching for and guarding against the darkness.

LOL! i was just making fun of it. they really looked like ninjas. i swear, if they didn't have their beards i'll be convinced they were one. anywho, i just think the movie drowned in too much cg and fx.

I haven't watched it. My friend has. He said it wasn't too good.
And I read now that it has CG and FX in it....I don't think this movie really required CG in my opinion...I think now CG makes a movie cheap because they're so distinctly fake. To this date, the best CG movie for me was Jurassic Park. That T-Rex chasing jeep didn't look like CG at all.

I hope they didn't CG the bodies... because.. mmmmmmmmm

... I did, however, leave the movie thinking I really needed to hit the gym.
