Default Kendo Summer Plans

Hey everybody,
I just got done with my first semester of college and now I'm going to take it easy for a lil bit. There is no real Kendo instructor here in Flagstaff so I've just been polishing what I know basically. I want to make a real effort to further studying Kendo on my own over the summer. I plan on reading through :

This is Kendo : The Art of Japanese Fencing by Junzo Sasamori and Gordon Warner

and I want to use

All Japan Kendo Federation Nihon Kendo Kata dvd

for reference.

If any of you have read the mentioned book or dvd I would appreciate your thoughts. I first got into Kendo when I studied abroad in Japan. Since then I practiced everything I learned there. I've been practicing on my own now for about 4 years. I really wish I had a group to practice with again. As a college student I am very broke though, so going out and purchasing all the equipment is temporarily out of the question. There is a fencing club, but I want to stay true to Kendo. Maybe it would be good to learn the tactics of the enemy though, lol.

What are your summer plans for kendo!!!!?

If you'd like to take a quantum leap in your kendo over the summer, you should consider attending some kendo summer camps, like the one sponsored by the AUSKF in Atlanta. http://www.auskf.org/

When I attend my dojo's weeklong annual kendo camp, I've found that there's usually a noticeable bump-up in my kendo -- after recovering from the grueling training schedule, that is. There's really no substitute for eating, sleeping and walking kendo all the time for a week.

That actually sounds really neat. I'm not sure if I could pull it off cause I have a pretty heavy work schedule, but thanks so much for the input, I'll definitely look into that!!!!!

I'm most definitely going to attend the AUSKF camp this summer.

Of course I'm a lucky bastard, for me, it's only like a 45 minute drive away. :-p

If your schedule and budget allows for three days and travel to California the NCKF summer Kendo Camp is July 6-7-8 in San Jose. It's closer to Flagstaff than Atlanta. Don't miss the AUSKF National Championship Tournament in Las Vegas next year - that's even closer to you.

if i don't get sick again, and my acid reflux is under control.. i'm planning quiet summer with lot of beer and twice a week kendo for the rest of the summer. nothing unusual. i'm still thinking about the AUSKF summer camp, but it's bit pricey for my budget right now.
