On the anniversary of my birth: Julius Caesar, Andrew Jackson, blah, blah. There's one thing that happens on my birthday that eclipses all. Hounen Matsuri. How appropriate.

There is a lot of sucky stuff that happened on my birthday:
1943 - World War II: The discovery of a mass grave of Polish prisoners-of-war executed by Soviet forces in the Katyń Forest Massacre was announced in Germany, driving a wedge between the Western Allies, the Polish government-in-exile in London, and the Soviet Union. 1945 - German troops massacre more than 1000 political and military prisoners in Gardelegen Germany. The atrocity is discovered two days later by American forces. 1975 - An attack by unidentified gunmen on a church in Ain El Remmeneh followed by an attack on a bus that killed 17 Palestinian civilians, Lebanon marks the beginning of a 15 year civil war. However, it's not all bad: 1977 - Tony Cook, Local heart-throb and amature kendoka, was born. ![]() |

(bet he wishes he hadn’t and released the curse) 1934 - Austrian Civil War ends with the defeat of the Social Democrats and the Republican Schutzbund (they had a civil war!!!!!) 1936 - Elections bring the Popular Front to power in Spain. (and received the eternal thanks of many nylon loving men – you know who you are!) 1940 - World War II: Altmark Incident: The German tanker Altmark is boarded by sailors from the British destroyer HMS Cossack. 299 British prisoners are freed. (well, they shouldn’t have parked it in Norwegian waters) 1945 - World War II: American forces land on Corregidor island in the Philippines. (they should never have left in the first place) 1945 - American forces recapture the Bataan Peninsula.
