Question for the british guys, I understand that there are two Kendo federations/association in Britain. I know about the BKA as being the official body of Kendo in the country, have often visited their site and sometimes talked with people.
I heard about the BKR and checked their site, the main difference I see is that they are not shiai oriented but I didn't find much more info. Are they part of the WKF?, do they do ZNKR Kendo?, was just a Kendo split in the UK? In other words, what is the difference (other than size) Cheers, JCM |

I believe the split was personal as well, but as with most things of nature the original disputes are more than likely fogged with the mists of time leaving just gripes and veiled attacks at people and activities. Oh, and this whole thing is best left in the past. |

Don't want to get into that either. We had a BKR visitor a few weeks back, is a matter of curiosity more than anything else. |

On the Iai front the BKR tend not to do any Seitei ( although I cannot say for sure that none of their dojos do not do Seitei).
In their favour ( and I am BKA not BKR - just for the record), they do not seem to get hung up on training with other people and practicing different ryu fom time to time. This contrasts quite sharply with the BKA line which I think is Insurance cover led but there may be more to it. |

The politics are best left in the past
I trained in the BKR for 10 years and was graded by Mr Knutsen to nidan so I have a fair idea of the organisation. They are not IKF affiliated & their grades are not recognised by the BKA or anyone else - DNBK is a new development to me - Their kendo has a different emphasis & they dont do shiai in any form but its still kendo Id say the members just want to do kendo / Iai & theyre no different to the rest of us My opinion is that if you want to do kendo you are better off in the BKA for too many reasons to post here PM me if you want more detail - in my view politics is that last thing id like to discuss in open forum regards Phil.. |

Did they approach you or was it through friends? And what was your visitors kendo like? Just normal im guessing. They didnt hit you in the legs and say "aha, but in a sword fight your be lying helpless on the ground!" or anything did they? Phil, I understand, I don't want to get into politics either, I just wanted to know a bit more about them |
