I found Italy to be beautiful, but the Romans (are they still called that?) don't know how to look after their monuments...

I like Italy just fine.... Good food, good wine, decent quality of life....
And a large Korean Community with plenty of Synagogues for the High Holiday Celebrations.

as far away from mankind as possible.
but since I am part of mankind that would be everywhere.
as long as I can see the stars at night, and have a breath of fresh air, perhaps a nice wooden dojo floor in the area would be nice to

Give me the undulating hills, and the strong smell of the long Spring grass,
~The Meadowlarks' endless arguments with the Quail and Rock Dove.
The gullies where the Cows can congregate as speak of Salt-Licks.
The lonesome Oak;
-atop a hill of set afire with color as the sun retreats.
The din of wild wheat, golden and swaying; from an occasional Northern gust.
The immense Redwoods in the distance;
seen by the Cloud-dappled, endless expanse of rolling slopes.
There are Jackrabbits to be seen,
and grasshoppers to be caught.
-And all the while,
at long day's end,
the twilight coolness,
beckons me to come home.

And both a 16-gauge and a 7 mm or maybe just a nice custom drilling...

Id have to say Perth, Western Australia. Its small, laid-back, good food, great coffee and friendly people. But Im biased, of course!
Perth is nice. But at a population of well over a million, I think your idea of "small" is a little off.

If all my friends and family weren't here, I'd move to the Okanagan valley (Kelowna, Penticton, etc) in a heartbeat. Great weather in summer, mild winters (by Canadian standards) with excellent local ski resorts, tons of local wineries, beautiful lake, 4 hour drive to Vancouver for an ass-kicking fix, and (I've just found out) a local kendo club in Kelowna.

Housing prices are the only downer.

Ideal place to live? oh er.. I'd move into a room inside the MacAllan distillery. Preferably a room that has the pipe that carries the good stuff from the barrels to the bottling area running through it.

From a 'boring' point of view I'd go to either Scotland or the New Zealand south island, although i've been quite happy in Melbourne as well... hmm... let's just go for that distillery then.

- I'm sorry, but astronomers renamed Uranus in 2620 to end that stupid joke once and for all.
- Oh. What's it called now?
- Urrectum

+1 about avoiding Belgium
