MaxPayneWayne,
First off, you are not a true kendo student. You are a prideful American, kendoka wanna-be. You point your finger and say "That person is not humble! Look at me, I'm humble!" And, then you come here and boast about how good you are and how you beat the others and how much better your technique is and how clean it is and blah blah blah.
Kendo is about learning, not boasting and whining, which you have apparently mastered. When doing keiko, you and everyone else is there to learn from each other. If you are better, it is your duty to teach those who are of lower rank than you. If you are a visitor to a dojo, you automatically do not have any seniority. That is the Japanese way. It is the sensei's business to take care of his students, not a visitor.

Whiner.

Why you join a strip mall karate club?

yeah it seems assholish how you ASSumed that i came and tried to get ahead of them in line. they know who i am and they know i've been doing kendo and have been 3-dan longer than they have been. i've been going to that dojo for about 7 years now, and i ALWAYS ask the sensei personally if i can practice, and i ALWAYS thank the sensei after practice. it's kinda obvious that the sensei and i have an UNDERSTANDING. i know he'll let me practice, and i know that he knows that i'm thankful. but i guess you never heard of this saying in kendo: kendo wa rei ni hajimari soshite rei ni owaru. kendo begins with and ends with rei. or does your dojo not teach you this aspect of kendo? that's exactly what i do and alot of other kenshi out there as well. i've been going to this dojo ALOT longer than these other kenshi. so this is MY second dojo. i have alot of second dojo, but yet i always seem to greet the sensei before i start practice and personally thank the sensei after practice. and dr.hillsing, i think i should be fired up about this. you know why? these are supposedly 3-dan. shouldn't they at least personally thank the sensei, do keiko honorably, and be exceptionally respectful to the dojo, its kenshi, and the sensei? or does being 3-dan give you the right NOT to excercise these practices and allow you to line up in front of everyone? i don't want dojos to produce these buremono kenshi. these dojos should be teaching kendo etiquette and not just waza. oh, but i guess that would just be assholish right?
You know, I wasn't trying to attack you when I wrote my post, I was just trying to add some reason behind their motives, but thanks for making it a flame. Question, were these people guests to this dojo or were they students. Were they older than you, you never answered that.
And honestly, I don't know the rank of half the people in my dojo...we can assume they don't know your rank. Besides, even if they knew your rank by your face, you do wear a men and it kind of disguises you (even with a zekken). Also, if the practice was going for 45 minutes before these people came, and according to you, took a long time to change, couldn't it be possible that you missed them bowing to the sensei? I mean, you sound like you would be the model student, diligent and humble, focused with every movement. You couldn't be aware of the movements of these guests even if you were superman, if you were oh so great as you say you are.
Like the rest of the people posting, i'm trying to say don't get so fired up over it, try to look at it through a different perspective and with reason. I was trying to give you that perspective...but then you had to go and talk about my own etiquette at my dojo (something you have no idea about).
So yeah, I'll finish like everyone else, stop whining, be more humble.

NO maxpaynewayne is a loser, you got it in the first place, looser.
You should quit kendo, its not for you, you're a freak. Litige thinks you have a
head too big to fit in the men, he also thinks you don't know rei. I think I'll just stop saying things, it's pointless, you are pointless, you are a freak.

Guys, stop this.

This arguing is senseless. All you guys seem to care about is insulting each other. If I was in a dojo practicing with you higher ranked people right now, I'd not know how to think about the lot of you. You all talk of respect, but it all goes right out the window when you insult each other like this. I guess all of you ignored my previous post then. I may be just a beginner, but I know that all this insulting each other confuses me when you people say respect is important, and then this mess. As a beginner, I'd not approach any of you in class, because of this. I'd stay far away. In my previous post, it was just a bunch of ideas I had on what it would mean to carry the responsibility of being a sandan. It wasn't meant as an insult at all, even though some comments were for Max.

Please don't yell at me.

Kaoru
From what I have seen, many people force themselves to talk about respect because they have read (spl?) the IKF statement about Kendo. The thing is respect should come naturaly and by some learning, not because it's written somewhere. I do Kendo, I must be respectful, and improve my country. It should be this all the time, Kendo or not.
So Kaoru, don't be confuse, it's just that people forces themselves, but at some point, it all goes out in this forum...It's all like MaxPayneWayne, he talks about etiquette and respect, but diss other kenshi he doesn't even know.
Maybe in some point in my life, i'll be more respectful, more patient etc...
But it will come naturaly through teaching and life experiences (spl?), sure, Kendo will help, if I'm serious, and natural, unlike maxpayne, who forces it.

The teacher will be respected because the teacher knows more than the students and the students are learning from the teacher. The teacher is not a superior nor does the teacher demand utmost (too zealous) respect. The dojo is not the teacher's house. The dojo is a place where kendoists practice and the teacher should be humbled to be the teacher of the dojo. The teacher does not teach under the concept that he or she is "letting" the students learn. The teacher is honored with trust from the students.

You seem to religiously follow an imaginary social structure constructed by your mind which is struggling with your split ancestry.
Do you look Japanese? Do your physical features identify you as a Japanese?
