Default Going Commando in Kendo...the Facebook Group
All I was doing was searching for other kendo groups on facebook and I ended up finding the group F*** Yeah, I Go Commando in Kendo...Do You?. For some reason, I'm not surprised. I also joined it too, by the way.

One of the posts on there:

Freeballing:

upside:
-air out the boys.
- get an extra slapping sound during fumikomi.

downside:
-igarashi sensei gets a handful of you when goes to check if ur really freeballin'

igarashi: "oh, i am ashamed"
Is anyone else mildly freaked out by this?

Sorry Pablo I don't think Wapanese have access to the bits required to make 'going commando' logical...How long ago did you go through the ritual of castration to join the Wapanese club BTW?

lol, i'm glad that you mention castration my dear helenic/aussie friend. i'm happy(or sad) to tell you that in spain the cases of near-castration/mutilation-of-weenie i've witnessed in kendo have been suffered by irresponsible guys who WENT COMMANDO

now i don't know about other countries, but if you come to my dojo i'll introduce you to someone who by those hardships of fate and almost losing his inner shoto will never see freeballin' kendo the same way

if i was you, i would start taking more care of the family jewels! that's how i have them intact and fully functional... ahem, when needed

p.s. what was that about wapanese? does it mean something like wanting to be transfered to japan and live there desperately?? hehehe

cheers.

Your normal body temp. is 37 deg. C. but the boys want to be 36 deg. C.
Your tighty whities will overheat them and you will shoot blanks.

Personnaly, "freeballing" is NOT an option. A few years, ago (I was 17) , I REALLY saw my jewels (13 stitches, they still work very well). The accident wasn't related to kendo, but it would have been far worse if I was "freeballing". One of my brother's friend suffered from a problem of that type while playing rugby because he was freeballing under his short: 8 stitches.

one of the biggest problems of freealling in kendo an any other sport is a creepy thing called: TESTICULAR TORSION.

personally, I donīt seek a subscription to that club.

Scary -- are boxers OK, or are boxer-briefs considered the minimum safety?

boxers are not recommended for sports as far as I know. I remember my basketball trainer doing big emphasis on the underwear thing, and not recommending boxers.

I've got no problem with the old man hanging out but the one time I freedomed (he he free-domed he he!) I went into sonkyo and got a nice hakama wedgie. I'll stick with boxer brief type things thanks.

oh, i make sure not to wear anything that tight. ever. actually doctors recommend not to wear anything tight on the groin area for the reasons you mention. not just for sports but for daily life as well.

now about the overheating issue, i think that shouldn't be such a problem... IF samurai of old's family jewels survived long battles with that massive loincloth (2.4m/8-foot of cloth around the groin no less!) called fundoshi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fundoshi) + yoroi i think just normal one-layer natural-cotton briefs won't do any harm to yours....

going commando in kilt makes sense.. but in hakama.. there's too many sankyo in between the washing and visit to the head. unless you wash your hakama after every practice, i don't even want to think about what the damned thing will smell like in few days.

I wouldn't go without "pants" for Kendo! Yak, no way!!! I wear white, I'm paranoid enough that you can see my legs through my hakama, let alone anything else!
So does he, I hope he does his own washing.
