Default Vorlon Microsoft Help Desk
*consumer makes call to Windows help desk*

Vorlon: "Who are you?"

Caller: "Um...I'm having some problems with Windows Vista...I can't get my computer to boot up anymore"

Vorlon: ....silence....

Caller: "Hello? Is anyone there? Can you help me with my Vista Operating System?"

Vorlon: "There is a question?"

Caller: "Yes! I need help with my computer - geez, a bit touchy today?"

Vorlon: "Impudent."

Caller: "Ok, no need to get upset. Can you help me?"

Vorlon: "Perhaps."

Caller: "Great...and....???"

Vorlon: "I will do as you ask. But there is a price to pay..."

Caller: "Ah...no...I've paid for tech support and this call should be free, right?"

Vorlon: "You do not understand. But you will."

Caller: "Look, stop being so cryptic with me, will ya! Either help me with Microsoft Vista or I'll just go out and by a damn Mac from Apple!"

Vorlon: "They are alone. They are a dying race. We should let them pass."

Caller: "Who? Microsoft or Apple."

Vorlon: "Yes"

Caller: "This is ridiculous and you're wasting my time!! I'll just call back later."

Vorlon: "Good. We shall commence again tomorrow at the hour of longing."

Caller: "Like hell. What is your name?"

Vorlon: "Kosh"

Caller: "What about your supervisor?"

Vorlon: "Kosh"

Caller: "Don't play games with me. Is there anyone else I can talk to?"

Vorlon: "We are all Kosh"

Caller: ....hangs up....

Vorlon: "Good. We take no interest in the affairs of others"

Techie sacrilege coming, cover your eyes:

Don't hate Microsoft:

Apple sucks just as much

Apple is my pet hate, underperforming, overpriced, over-rated and the mythical image processing performance doesn't stand up to many regular PCs on any standard benchmark testing, they have cool vendor specific software but that is it, plus, their only answer to the windows blue screen for years used to be a smiley face during system crashes. The main reason Mac is safer is because most hackers can be bothered to make the effort due to the limited ammount of products out there. And guess what, your keyboard is an 'option', and so is your mouse. I want to buy a car, but the steering wheel only comes as an option, you need to pay for that

As for Unix, Linux and Solaris and all their flavours, they are great, but lets face it, you need to have a computer science degree or lots of experience to use them, not really for the average Joe consumer market.

Windows is one of the few products out there on which even your gran can sit down and work away in a matter of days with very little training. They are a monopoly building bunch, but you cannot fault the product for that. They didn't become industry leaders for no reason, their product just worked where others didn't.

Hey JCM, no need to be tactful, say what you mean!

Never used a Mac so I can't judge. The closest I got was buying an iPod for my daughter this year. Expect it to die soon!

linux these days is just as easy as a windows.

exept for people who have been using windows for a long time.

if you teach linux to someone who hasnt used a computer before, it will go just as easely as teaching him windows.
the "issue" that most people have with linux is, that it doesnt behave like windows.
wel duh, its a different operating system.
KDE (a graphical shell for linux) has really become alot better over the last 5 years, Vista stole most of its cool features from linux graphic shells, who have had it for years now, (transparent windows etc, ). diffence is, linux doesnt need a whooping 2 gig ram to run that stuff and doesnt even crsh that often

sorry, just my anti MS rant My job turned me into this

You need to try Ubuntu then.
If you do not have the skills to install the miracle and the wonder that is Ubuntu,
-step slowly away from your pc, and then smash it with a hammer.

You are no longer allowed on mah innerwebs.

"your keyboard is an 'option', and so is your mouse."

Old computer, perfect mouse and keyboard.
New computer, don't need new mouse or keyboard
Money saved
Everyone happy
