Government Statement :

Immigration Minister Liam Byrne said today: "The circumstances surrounding Tul Bahadur Pun's case are clearly exceptional, and in the light of this the Home Secretary, John Reid, and I have reviewed the case and made the decision to grant Mr Pun a settlement visa immediately.

"This decision was not taken lightly and reflects the extraordinary nature of this case, in particular Mr Pun's heroic record in service of Britain which saw him awarded the Victoria Cross. It is entirely right that this record should not only be recognised but honoured.

"There has always been scope to grant settlement in the UK to ex-Gurkhas who have retired before July 1997, and who do not meet the requirements in the immigration rules. As on this occasion, discretion may be exercised on a case by case basis. We have also taken into consideration his current medical condition." I think that settles it...

I think that settles it...
Well it settles this particular issue ..but not the wider one about giving Gurhka's proper pension rights ect.
This is still continuing.
The fact that for 200 years they have served and fought for Britain counts little with our 'Politicians'.
Spend my money on chav scum ... thats Ok i dont mind after all It's not their fault is it... victims of society, 'I've got rights' ect.

Servicemen and Veterans should always have first bite of the cake, afterall they are the ones prepared to defend the country.

Do i sound cynical

I think the Government is worried about precisely that. They are thinking in terms that if they allow the Gurkhas patriation to the UK they will be obligated to provide healthcare, public services etc to them. (Which they should very well do) and this will bite a chunk into their budget which they weren't prepared for...

Typical current UK Governmental thinking I am afraid.

Happy to spend money on wasters who think they have a right to hand outs and do very little all day. And yes there are jobs out there - so many in fact that we actually NEED immigrants to fulfil all the posts advertised. What makes me laugh is that the biggest critics of immigration are the ones who are dolewallers who talk about immigrants taking "their jobs" like they ever want to work anyway.

Of course why should they work when the state provides more in handouts than the minimum wage ever could. Hence why so many from Eastren Europe bypass France, Belgium etc and head straight for our dole office.

And if you say anything against anyone coming here you are automatiucally branded a racist by the guardianistas - which very soon will be punishable by death ( I made that bit up but don't be surprised if that turns out to be the next phase).

Little rant over - came again
