I think holding off on judgment of the organization (if even at all) is in order until more information is forthcoming.
I sent them an email asking some basic questions about what it is they do.

Only because I am curious.

Just my 2 cents, but I urge everyone to not be hasty to make any negative comments at this time.

It just looks like some guys who want to escape their office lives with some RPGing. They don't seem like samurai wannabees who juggle live blades in their backyard. Just like guys having some fun. *shrug* I don't really see anything wrong with it.

I apologize. My post wasn't meant to be negative towards what they are doing there. What I should have said was if you long to wear armor and fight with a katana here is your chance. I'm new around here and didn't understand the use of the term "wannabe samurai". Here are their rules of engagement.

Nono, No harm to post it.
In fact, I would normally be the first one to make with the wisecracks in the past, and let’s be honest, they’d be sort of easy pickins if you know what I mean.
Must be my age creeping up on me, but I now learn towards the feeling that unless they are saying what they do is Kendo or a legitimate MA, I'm thinking if it makes them happy, then awesome!

Thanks for posting it!

Looks like Japanese SCA kind of thing to me. If it weren't for re-enactors, a lot of knowledge would probably die out.

I got excited, but after watching the video I don't mind too much. It doesn't seem like they took themselves too seriously. My only two complaints would be that the way they filmed it made me kinda nauseous, and that there were a lot of bushi who didn't look too Japanese. I didn't see any offers to teach, make money, or claims of affiliation to any school.

Somehow I get the feeling that this is just their version of a grindhouse/exploitation movie. The kind where the movie itself isn't stellar but appears to be that way through hyped trailers. Either way, seems like the whole thing is done in jest and might be something to watch just to laugh your butt off to.

Seems to me like a bunch of guys that get together to have fun, eat, drink, and generally share a good moment. Not very different from what I did in my old IPMS days...The movie trailer is very tongue-in-cheek (check the names!), and I love the bamboo water container they´re selling!
And, admit it, aren´t we all a bit of a wannabe samurai after all...?

Found it intersting.....does seem kind of SCA like though. Would be curious to see if they reply to Kenzans questions as well. So I'm with you...not going to pass judgement either as they could be legit. and just having some fun.

and that there were a lot of bushi who didn't look too Japanese.
I don't think any of them take their hobby so seriously that they want to go through plastic surgery.

They're not like the SCA -- they are the SCA. This seems to be an SCA household, complete with links to participation at the (SCA) Great Western War on their "events" page.

no they are not the sca. i am basing this assumption on the fact that they do not use rattan simulators.

i'm not saying there aren't people who "play samurai" in the racks of the sca, one needs to look no further than "tiggr's toggs" to find this out...

what they are reenacter. the same type of people who are also in ghostdancer's post.

and please don't confuse the two, you'll only get a headache for hearing them whine about it (either type).....

Is it me, or does there appear to be an stark overrepresentation of a specific ethinic group and gender as the participants?

Just sayin'.
