Don't do what?!
Hit rocks with it? Prune trees with? Defend yourself from flying coral with it? Use it as a reason to insult someone? There is so much to choose from. |

Here's another thing you shouldn't do with a shinken:

Here's an idea: don't post about tooling around with dangerous weapons on a forum full of people who take JSA seriously, and don't insult the people and things we respect. You clearly need help. By the way, it doesn't show it on the picture about the coral, but the highest nick is actually right below the monouchi, so the nicks are a sort of measurement for me - they tell me where I am striking, if I get straw in a nick I know my form is off. Cool it, dude. ![]() |

May I ask why you've chosen to hit coral and trees with a shinken? Why do you feel that nicks in the blade are a "sort of measurement" and that damaging a blade like that is ok to do? If shinken are sacred to you as you claim, then why did you strike a rock in anger? I find it highly unlikely that striking coral and a tree were accidents and that it was more likely that they were deliberate. What Oroshi said was spot on. Stop what you're doing, take a minute to reevaluate our actions, and come back when you have decided to discontinue this nonesense.

Mistake number 1, acknowledged. For the tree/rock I wasn't angry, it's just that I made a jagged cut on a twig, and on my second swing the rock was there. I was unaware of it until I actually hit it. It's rather funny, but at my own expensive. It will never happen again. |

Hopefully Karai is still reading, he may find the following information of some importance:
http://www.iaido.org/pages/tameshigiri.html It should be noted that the Canadian Iaido Association follows the instruction of Esaka sensei, thus tameshigiri is not permitted. Let alone trees, rocks, coral, etc. |
