Greetings all!
I'm currently in a bit of a dilemma. I currently attend 2 Kendo clubs. One of which is a local one (rest assured it is NSWKA registered, not a McDojo that is) and the other is the one that I have started Kendo with. Ie; There's USYD kendo club which I have been with since i've started Kendo (only been a year, but oh well) and the other one is a club that I have recently started to attend since the end of last year. Now there's a competition coming up and the local club wants me to compete with them. But I think that I should compete under USYD Kendo. Which club should i compete with? Note; that the local club is a small club with only about 4 or 5 regular Kendo, and there's a team comp. What should I do? =/ Cheers. |

If you are new, being on the smaller dojo team makes sense to me. The big dojo has more people and since you are new then you 'leaving' to be on another team won't be bad because it is not like you are the taisho leaving one dojo to be with a different one. It's not tramatic to their success for you to compete with another team. The other team may only have 4 people as you said as well and rather than compete with an empty spot or random unkown addition, they are competing with a real, usual member which is much better for morale and the spirit of the match, in my opinion.
Spark up a conversation with sensei of the dojo you are not competing with, I am sure people will be reasonable and understand your multiple dojo affiliations and loyalties. |
