Just FYI there is also quite a bit of spots in Nagasaki as well. Sakamoto was gun running with Thomas Glover and was also were he took command of a Western ship that he commanded in battle if I remeber correctly. Not sure where the tea house exactly is, but supposedly there is a tea house post still standing that bears a scar in it from when Sakamoto lost his temper and drew his blade. Unfortently I ran out of time and didn`t get to see it when I was in Nagasaki.

This is the shrine website. It has a map and a little bit of information in English. I took a quick look at the Japanese page and it seems there's a small festival/religious ceremony on 15 November (from 3pm) that commemorates Ryoma's death. |
