I started Martial Arts at 7 years old, so have really grown up doing them. To say that they have changed my life would be wrong, since how much is there to change in a 7yo. However, I would say that they have 'shaped' my life - but to what extent is anyone's guess (because I haven't the foggiest). I think the problem with the question posed is, who is to say that our lives would have turned out differently if we have not taken up MA? (and to what degree would our lives have naturally evolved in the absence of MA? Would it be any different to where we are now?)

I was a wreck before with drug, booze, girl, etc... I was living a night life without thinking about the future. One day, I was walking pass a dojo and suddenly It hit me. I came into the dojo, broke down, crying, and confess to a sensei, and he told me to come more often and all will be forgiven. today, I am proudly to say that I am a Kendoka and I have quit all of it except booze and girl. for booze, I cut down from cheap vodka to cheap sake. I go to confess to the sensei once a week. Yes I can say that Kendo changed my life.

I've only been learning Kendo for a few months and so far the major change in my life is that I can't wear high heels to work because of the blisters on my feet and I feel self conscious in a dress because my knees are bruised from seiza. i too have difficulty wearing high heels and dresses.. but it doesnt stop me Don't worry, your feet and knees will get better soon. I was the same when I started kendo. ![]() |

I'm sorry! if I made you angry. When I read your reply, I supposed you were a woman and much younger than me. I do not wear high heels anymore. I am too old for them. I'm trying to be friendly.Gomennasai. ![]() Us British people have a rather specific sense of humour, he was just joking by saying something that a girl would say even though he isn't, don't ask me why but us Brits find that sort of thing funny ![]() |

Before kendo I didn’t own anything indigo blue to wear.
Before kendo I could just go home after work, have a nice bath, relax and get to sleep…now I have to go to practice, catch the last buss home, get a bath and then rush into bed to sleep…and wake up more tired. Before kendo I could meet with all my friends, now “this evening I have practice” is the thing they hate the most Before kendo people thought I was just a shy girl…now they are afraid of me ![]() Before kendo I never wore something so stinky as a bogu Before kendo I was never asked by people on the street if I was going fishing Before kendo the security guy never told me I’m not allowed to have weapons with me when entering the building Before kendo I had nice feet Before kendo my shirts actually fit (both arms) Before kendo my arms were symmetrical Before kendo I didn’t knew so many Japanese words Before kendo I didn’t drink so much…water Before kendo I could only scream at people now I get to scream AND hit them with a stick ![]() ![]() |
