Default Brand New Place to Practice =)
Hello everyone,

Me and my fellow Sempai just rented a place where the floor is very aproppiate for Kendo and also very spacious , of course to practice and to teach some newbies so that the place could pay for itself in the long run.

Any ideas ? or experiences of your own that helped you in your own dojo ?

Thanks

Gabriel Paredes

Just from reading here, it seems like publicity is the greatest problem for a lot of places. Make business cards and flyers; make sure everyone everywhere knows you exist. Let people drop in and see, try to get a core group together so that there's something for them to watch. Even if you tell someone who has no interest in kendo, THEY might mention it to someone else who's interested in swords, anime, or martial arts in general.

Make a web page with the name of your town and key words like kendo, Japanese sword art, martial arts, and so on, so that you start showing up in web searches.

Give a demo, find a local cultural event that is somewhat related.

Just keep in mind that the people you have to work the hardest to recruit will likely be the first ones to give up.

What needs promoting is kendo itself. If more people are aware of what kendo is, they'll find the places to practice, that's the easy part these days. So don't use up your resources promoting your club unless there are so many local dojo/clubs that you'd get lost in the shuffle otherwise.
