I'll soon be leaving my tropical paradise (*cough cough*) and move my life elsewhere yet again. I'm going to live some time in The Netherlands and then maybe somewhere else. Who knows.
Anyway, my Kendo training, which has seen better days, will be resumed once I re-start my life in Europe. I hope to travel around the continent for taikai etc. as much as possible (it will of course depend on the kind of job I get haha) so of course I expect to meet quite a few of you. Depending on how things go I also expect to realize my long time dream of taking up Iaido. I have already contacted the NKR to see if there's any bureaucracy, and as soon as I clear up things with my federation I'll contact the dojo I'm interested in attending. I'm going no later than early June and I'll initially be staying in the lovely city of Utrecht. Any words of advice/encouragement/hatred (don't come here to steal our jobs you stinky foreigner!)? In any case... see you soon! |

First of, get a bike. Second, get a bike! You can get to so many places with just a bike in a small country like the Netherlands. Also, Utrecht has a kendo club, and it's right in the middle of the country. You can get just about everywhere fairly easy from there. Though Dutch public transport is a bit of a pain at times. Also, did I mention you should get a bike?

I'm thinking, maybe (not sure about this yet) I'll get a bike. I hope the bike license isn't too hard to get!
:P Raindrop, I'm in it FOR the culture shock! Hopefully it won't damage me much further... We'll get to cross swords eventually, I'm sure, it's just a matter of crossing borders. ![]() Thank you, folks! |

So you've decided to cross the pond and live in our beautiful, but crazy, country.
Are you sure about it, we really are nuts you know. We're a small country, so visits some dojo and see which one you like. I also agree with Kereo: Get a bike, and learn to ride the damn thing. There is nothing worse than some tourist, who thinks it's fun to go on a bike ride, but has no clue what the traffic rules are. Don't get me wrong, I don't know the rules either, but I know how to ride a bike (Last month I found out I travel more than 5000 km a year by bike). You will use that thing for things you never thought where possible with a bike. I'm not going to tell you anything else, you will find out by yourself. Have fun, be careful (bike+other forms of traffic= ![]() Anyhow, I'm sure we'll meet. We can get a beer some time, I live close by (just 1 hour by bike ![]() |
