Default Happy 100th Birthday, Mr K...
Even though he ain't with us any more, here's to Akira Kurosawa, born 100 years ago today!

Legend!

Ran, the Seven Samurai and Yojimbo are three of the best films ever made.

Hard to believe he'd be a centurion now.

Hehe centenarian. You're thinking of John Cleese in Life of Brian.

AKIRA KUROSAWA March 23rd 1910 - September 6th 1998

Ok, I know Akira Kurosawa is beloved on these forums, so I figure the doublepost was worth it if I put some effort into this one.

I chased down the Akira Kurosawa Digital Archive, which is full of pictures of him on and off set throughout his life, scans, notes and sketches. It's in Japanese, but translates well and worth a look through.

I wanted to find a decent source for the watercolours he painted during filming, but I've not had much luck (there may be some in the Digital Archive).

For anyone who gets the Turner Classic Movies channel, they're playing all his movies for the rest of the day & night. Sanshiro Sugata is on right now for you judo lovers.

Cracked open a few cans with mates and watched Kagemusha. Hadn't seen it since I was about 15 and its boss.
